About this project

What does Salt and Sands - Balance Patch add?

A simple balance patch for the Salt and Sands mod, addressing feedback from players about shellfish being too powerful as an early-game food source.

This patch was created in response to balance concerns with the Salt and Sands mod:
  • Shellfish were providing excessive saturation compared to other protein sources
  • Shell grinding produced too much lime relative to effort required
  • Pearl drops made early income generation too easy

The goal is to position shellfish as a "berry-tier" food source. Useful for foraging and complementary to berries (filling the protein bar), but not superior to fishing or farming.

Changes

Food Saturation Nerfs

Before:
  • Raw: 150 satiety
  • Cooked: 250 satiety (more than cooked poultry!)
  • Cured: 200 satiety

After:
  • Raw: 50 satiety (matches raw fish)
  • Cooked: 100 satiety (matches cooked fish)
  • Cured: 75 satiety (matches cured fish)

Additionally, raw shellfish now inflict a -0.25 HP penalty to reflect food poisoning risk, making them edible in a pinch but unpalatable in large amounts unless cooked. Applies to: Clams, Scallops, Freshwater Mussels, and Urchins

Shell Lime Production Nerf

  • Reduces lime output from 2 lime → 1 lime per shell
  • Net result: Each bivalve produces 2 lime instead of 4 lime
  • Keeps the realistic detail of 2 shells per bivalve
  • Makes shells less attractive to carry than limestone blocks for lime production

Pearl Drop Rate Nerf

  • Reduces pearl chance from 33% → 15% (roughly 1 in 7 instead of 1 in 3)
  • Makes pearls a rarer, more valuable find
  • Balances early-game income generation
