About this project

What does Sensible Explosives add?

"Sensible" Explosives is a rework of the Explosives mod that also adds new explosives-related content.

Here is a full list of what this mod does:

  • Tweaks to vanilla's bombs

    • Iron Oxide now a "filler" that lets you craft blasting bombs with less blasting powder
    • Ore and Stone blasting bombs more effective, blast radius of 4 on a stone bomb is worthless!
    • Scrap Bomb buffed. It has higher range and will at least kill what's standing on top of it now.

  • Tweaks to Explosives' features

    • Updated recipes for all bombs
    • Updated models for several bombs, mostly just tweaks
    • Updated descriptions on all explosives, with extra text flavor!
    • Removed Explosives' stone breaker bomb since the stone blasting bomb exists in vanilla now
    • Ceramic Bomb (Pot) blast radius to 5 (from 4). Friend of mine used this to tunnel a canal, so it actually does its job now
    • Stone Blasting Barrel blast radius to 10 (from 8), more bang for your rather expensive buck
    • Ore Blasting Barrel blast radius to 8 (from 10), blasted too much stone instead of ore
    • Reed Shrapnel Bomb tweaked (I forget what I did to it, to be honest. Small value tweaks.)
    • Flint & Steel durability to 1,000 (from 3,000), thing looks like it shouldn't last that long but 1k durability is still good.

  • New features:

    • New explosion sounds, the vanilla large explosion sound sucks and I have a whole library of Crossout sound effects lying around, soooo
    • New Flint & Steel variants, you can substitute the flint for a chert stone or a quartz chunk. Purely cosmetic.
    • Shrapnel Bomb turned into Fragmentation Bomb, with size variants depending on what kind of ceramic you use
      • Fragmentation Bombs are a hybrid bomb, blasting stone and also having a large damage range
    • Ceramic Bomb (Bowl), an early game blasting bomb for people like me who stay in the stone age wayyy too long but there's rocks where I'd like to build my house.

    • 500kg Bomb, a post end-game super blasting bomb with a radius of 30. Incredibly expensive, hard to make, and very destructive.

    • Steel Bomb Shell, the primary component to the 500kg Bomb. You can use it like a fancy barrel if you want.
      • Don't comment about voxels being sent outside the wall of the shell, that is "voxel skipping", a mechanic you should know by the time you're forging this! It's the one recipe where that tech's not useful.
      • Co-op smithing recommended, ideally standing on a slab or lantern to more easily access the inside. Also gives you a buddy to complain to about how much the recipe sucks (it sucks!).
      • You will be "staircasing" a lot toward the end. Don't worry about using Split too much, you get maybe 20 - 30 or so voxels' worth of leeway.
      • If you need to pull voxels from the bottom, use Split to free up some space to staircase.
      • Yes, I had to make the recipe this painful, and if you don't already know these techniques, it will beat that into you by the time it's done with you.

I would make fully custom bombs if I could code. Terraria's "Scarab Bomb" that blasts a horizontal tunnel is one of those ideas. For now though, what this mod provides should be enough to compensate for what vanilla is missing.

This mod was mainly made because of large terraforming projects. Removing an entire mountain from existence would take a very long time of sitting there quarrying rock and getting attacked by drifters at night.

Anyway, leave a comment if any issues arise, and enjoy! I believe this is feature complete.
