Subtle Particles Plus 1.2.0 – Smarter Than Your Average Particle

This update makes Subtle Particles Plus much smarter when handling updates.

• You no longer need to delete particlesplus.json just to install a new version
• Subtle Particles Plus now does the heavy lifting itself
  • Merges missing presets
  • Preserves player customizations
  • Applies one-time fixes where needed
  • Fixes a number of ore preset wildcards. Ore variants are now detected correctly

 

In short: easier updates, less config pain, and better ore matching.

Update 1.1.2 - The Even More Subtle Update

I gave a few particles a time-out. They were getting out of hand and not being very subtle.
I also sent them back to school to teach them not to freak out so much about the weather, especially the wind.
Things should now feel more in line with the original goal of the mod.

Update 1.1.0 - The Ore You Serious? Update

This update adds a large batch of optional ore presets plus new underground-friendly particle effects.

New optional presets added

Loose Ores, Copper, Tin, Bismuth, Zinc, Lead, Silver, Gold, Iron, Nickel, Titanium, Chromium, Tungsten, Uranium, Manganese, Coal, Sulfur, Quartz, Borax, Sylvite, Graphite, Phosphorite, Kernite, Fluorite, Cinnabar, Corundum, Lapis Lazuli, Alum, and Olivine.

New effects

• Ore Sparks Subtle for metal ores

• Ore Dust Subtle for non-metal ores and minerals

These new effects are designed to work better underground by projecting particles outward from ore blocks instead of launching them straight into the sky.

Important

All newly added ore entries are disabled by default and can be turned on in the Particles Plus settings.

 

NOTE: This is not a standalone mod. You must have the Particles Plus mod from el_shift installed

 

Subtle Particles Plus replaces the default Particles Plus config with a more restrained preset that makes the particle effects:

• lower
• softer
• more subtle
• better blended into the world

 

It changes the default visuals of these (and now a bunch more) blocks

• Blue Clay
• Red Clay
• Fire Clay
• High Fertility Soil
• Peat

Important notes

• Requires that you also install the Particles Plus mod
• This mod is designed as an addon, not a standalone replacement mod
• On first install, it replaces the Particles Plus config with the Subtle preset config.
• If Particles Plus had already generated its config, a world reload will be required for the new settings to take effect (and this mod will tell you so)
• When Subtle Particles Plus overwrites the config with its own you will loose any changes you made through the Particles Plus UI.
• After the Subtle config has been installed, you can then make aditional changes through the Particles Plus UI and they should stick.

Why I made this

I like what Particles Plus does. It very frustrating to go exploring for some peat or high fertility soil and walk right over it because it just looks like any other grass block. But I didn't want it just hand the blocks to me. I still wanted to fell like I earned it through exploration.I wanted the visuals to be just enough to make it so I didn't miss it when it was right under my nose but not feel like I had super vision and was able to spot it from hundreds of blocks away. So this is my personal take on that balance.

If you like the idea of environmental particle hints, but want them to be more understated and immersive, this mod is for you.
