About this project
What does Paddy Fields add?
Paddy Fields
A Sakura no Sato Standalone Mod
Features:
- A new kind of Farmland, the Paddy Field, which will flood when next to a body of water.
- A new tool for creating the Paddies, the Ta-kuwa, a kind of hoe used in old Japan for a lot of things but mostly for the creation and maintaining of Paddy Fields.
- Crafting recipies for the Ta-Kuwa
- Rice is now adjusted to grow rather poorly on normal farmland, but at a small boost when grown on the Paddy.
- Cattails, tule, and papyrus gets a bonus when planted onto a Paddy.
- Adjustment to the Rice model so that it looks more accurate (but its not a perfect imitation of real life)
- Cranberry and Cloudberry bushes can be planted on the paddies as well, so you can make your own berry bogs!
How to use:
- Craft a Ta-Kuwa head either by knapping or via smithing, then assemble it with a stick as usual for tools to make the Ta-kuwa.
- Find some fertile land next to water or divert water next to your intended land or bring the fertile soil to the water.
- Right Click on the land you wish to make into a paddy.
- Plant rice or valid berry bushes as normal. Shift Right Click is needed for the Cattails and Reeds.
- Watch them grow!
Known issues:
There is a little bug that can happen where, because of how waterflow can work, that sometimes on reloading the water covering the paddy will be missing as if there is a barrier around it. Just pour some water around it with a bucket and that should fix it...basically anything that causes the flow of the water to update. Its not super common, but can be over larger paddy fields.
Background:
I am currently working on a Conversion mod for Vintage Story that shifts the setting from Europe in the 14th century (or so) to the Sengoku period of Japan. This mod is a standalone version of a system I added to that because my goal for that mod is immersive historical accuracy. I had posted some pictures up, someone said they would love to have this as a mod, so I pulled it out to make it standalone.
Future Plans:
From my perspective, this mod is feature complete and I don't plan on changing it further. Source code is up, you can tweak it however you wish, but for me....I don't see anything that needs any additional stuff with this.
Bug Reports:
Please post below if you have any issues. I have tested this about as well as one can, and it seems to work just fine, but...gremlins happen.
LLM use disclosure:
Claude was used for code-review and integrity checking so that I could make sure I didn't miss anything in the porting from the base without having to spend 5 times as long checking and re-checking stuff. Crappy thumbnail was made by me, in less than 5 mins, using a screenshot and tossing some text ontop of it...I am absolutely sure using a prompt and waiting on art to be generated would have taken longer and been laden with all the ethical quandaries therein too....hint hint.
