Dave's Discord Utilities

A server-side Vintage Story mod that extends Th3Essentials with Discord-based whitelist requests and administration tools.

• /request lets players submit Vintage Story whitelist requests from Discord.

• /ddu repair repairs or reposts missing and outdated review cards.
• /ddu check-mod-updates checks installed mods for ModDB updates and refreshes a staff-only update card.
• Private applicant threads keep request conversations separate and are archived or removed when no longer needed.
• Optional Discord role and nickname updates are applied after approval or revocation.
• Optional Th3Essentials identity checks link a player's Discord and Vintage Story accounts.
• Strict identity mode can revoke configured access when accounts are not linked before the deadline.
• Optional Discord bot status text can show the online player count and in-game calendar.

Requirements

• Vintage Story server 1.22.x
• Th3Essentials 2.17.1 or newer
• A Discord bot configured and working through Th3Essentials
• The applications.commands scope included in the bot invite
• The Discord Message Content intent enabled for the bot application
• The Discord Server Members intent enabled when Th3Essentials DiscordConfig.Rewards is set to true

Installation

1. Install and configure Th3Essentials.
2. Download the latest Dave's Discord Utilities release and place the ZIP file in the server's Mods folder.
3. Start the server once, then stop it.
4. Edit ModConfig/DavesDiscordUtilitiesConfigs/DavesDiscordUtilitiesConfig.json.
5. Start the server again.
6. Confirm that /request and /ddu repair appear in Discord.

If the commands do not appear, restart the server after Dave is online or run !setupth3essentials.

Basic Discord Setup

The channel and role names below are examples. The IDs in the mod configuration determine which channels and roles Dave uses.

Channels

• #request-whitelist: Guests run /request here.
• #requests: Staff review cards are posted here.
• Community channels: Make these visible only after approval if your server uses gated access.

Roles

• Guest/default role: Can see public information and #request-whitelist.
• Whitelisted: Grants normal member access.
• Helper: Can review whitelist requests.
• Bot role: Must be above every role that Dave grants or removes.

Important: Keep #requests staff-only. The mod checks channel privacy and refuses to post review cards if guests or normal members can view the channel.

Main Configuration Values

Set these values before opening whitelist requests:

• RequestChannelId: The channel ID for #request-whitelist.
• ReviewChannelId: The channel ID for the staff-only #requests channel.
• ApproverRoleIds: Helper role IDs as a JSON array, including when only one role is used.
• ApprovedRoleId: The role Dave grants after approval. Use 0 to disable role changes.
• IdentityVerificationMode: Use Off, TrackWhenAvailable, or Strict.

Identity Verification Modes

• Off: Dave does not check Th3Essentials account links.
• TrackWhenAvailable: Dave shows account-link status when Th3Essentials authentication is enabled.
• Strict: Approved players must link their Discord and Vintage Story accounts before the configured deadline. Dave revokes the configured access if the deadline expires. The default grace period is 24 hours.

Test Before Going Live

Run the testing checklist on a test server before accepting requests.

At minimum, test:

• A normal new whitelist request and approval
• Revoking access
• A request for an already-whitelisted username
• /ddu repair
• Request restrictions and removal of those restrictions
• Lockdown mode on and off
• Strict identity mode, if enabled
• Discord channel visibility with View Server As Role
