About this project
What does Dragonlings add?
Dragonlings
Add loyal dragon companions to your Hytale world with the Dragonlings mod. These small, bipedal dragons can be tamed as pets and will assist you with various tasks around your base. Each of the four unique variants has its own special abilities, making them valuable allies for farming, crafting, and combat.
Dragonlings requires Alec's Tamework! (version 2.5.0 or newer). Taming, ownership, the Dragon Whistle commands, companion home storage, healing interactions, and the Dragonling Crate all run through Tamework. Install Tamework alongside this mod.
Four Unique Variants
Green Dragonling (forest biomes): harvests mature crops in range and can deposit loot into a chest linked as its home.
Blue Dragonling (beaches and shores): waters farmland near its home.
Red Dragonling (Zone 4 Wastes): speeds up nearby furnaces by interacting with them.
Purple Dragonling (night spawns in various biomes): helps in combat against hostiles you are fighting.
How to Tame Dragonlings
Each variant is tamed with its matching essence, using Tamework tame rules (see the Tamework mod page for details). In short, hold the correct essence and use it on the wild dragonling:
- Green: Life Essence
- Blue: Ice Essence
- Red: Fire Essence
- Purple: Void Essence
Once tamed, the dragonling is yours through Tamework and can follow you, use the whistle, and be healed or crated as below.
Crafting the Dragon Whistle
Craft the Dragon Whistle at a Workbench under Tinkering:
- 1x Gold Ingot
- 1x Wood (any type)
Using the Dragon Whistle (Tamework Commands)
The whistle is a Tamework command item, not the old manual leash flow. You link your tamed dragonlings to the whistle, then issue commands to linked pets.
- Primary use: runs the default command (by default Follow for linked dragonlings). Aim at a dragonling and link it first if needed; Tamework shows feedback when commands apply.
- Secondary use: opens the linked companions selection menu so you can choose which pets receive commands and pick a different default command.
Set Home is how you anchor jobs: look at a block and run Set Home so the dragonling stores that spot as its work anchor. Green dragonlings look for a chest near home to deposit harvests; blue and red use that area for watering and furnaces. Follow clears the stored home when no home is set (see Tamework and in-game hints).
Healing With Essence
If you own a tamed dragonling, you can heal it with the same essence type you used to tame that color (Life for green, Ice for blue, Fire for red, Void for purple). Hold the essence and use the Feed interaction on your dragonling. Prompts and costs follow Tamework Feed rules for this mod's interaction configs.
Dragonling Crate
The Dragonling Crate lets you pick up a bonded tamed dragonling and place it elsewhere while keeping owner and companion data. It uses the same capture-crate style item and Tamework spawn behavior as other Tamework crates.
Craft it at the Farming bench:
- 1x vanilla Capture Crate
- 10x Life Essence
Use the crate on a tamed dragonling you own to store it; use the filled crate to spawn it at a new location (details follow Tamework crate usage).
