About this project
What does HyThief add?
HyThief — NPC Pickpocketing System
HyThief adds real-time NPC pickpocketing to Hytale, built around stealth, positioning, and risk versus reward.
Crouch behind an eligible NPC to access their inventory and attempt to steal items without being caught. Every item you take increases the risk of detection. Take what you need and walk away—or keep pushing your luck for something better.
If you're caught, the pickpocket attempt immediately ends and the NPC reacts to the theft.
Key Features
- Crouch-based pickpocketing from behind supported NPCs
- Role-specific loot and escalating detection risk
- Crouch-aware stealth for fresh Idle-state encounters
- Existing awareness persists after detection; crouching does not reset it
- Normal merchant trade remains available outside pickpocketing
- Native, role-dependent caught responses; Kweebec merchants can signal a nearby eligible Razorleaf guard
- No separate third-party mod dependency required
Version 1.3.0
Requires Hytale 0.6.8. This release declares the exact server target =0.6.8; compatibility with other versions is not claimed.
The full support matrix covers 185 configured NPC role IDs, including 183 concrete roles and two abstract Bramblekin definitions. Native hearing, special states, environmental stimuli and retained targets can still detect or track players.
Install HyThief-1.3.0.jar in your Mods folder, remove older active HyThief JARs, and enable the mod for your world or server. Back up your world before upgrading.
Representative gameplay checks and native matrix validation support this release. We have not manually tested every NPC encounter. Player feedback will guide future updates. For bug reports, include the NPC role, Hytale version, other installed mods, reproduction steps and a relevant log excerpt in the project comments or GitHub issues.
