About this project

What does BeastBound add?

BeastBound: hunt the wild, offer its trophy, become the beast

BeastBound lets you become the wild. Twenty anthropomorphic forms, each one built from the real Hytale creature: its head, its fur or feathers, its claws and its moves. Your clothes and your eyes stay on the beast, so the beast is still you.

How it worksHunt, offer, become

1. Hunt

Every wild species can drop its trophy when it falls: a wolf fang, a hawk talon, a bear claw. One trophy is all it takes.

2. Offer

Bring it to the Altar of Beasts. One waits in the room where you first wake up, and you can build your own at a Workbench. Drop the trophy into the offering cup and the beast's spirit orb lights up in the ritual circle.

3. Become

Pick your active form in the circle, then press H to transform. Press H again to walk back on two human legs.

Each trophy becomes a spirit orb

Fight like a beast

The Werewolf, Hawk, Crocodile, Bear, Rabbit, Raven, Frog and both Spiders fight with their own moves. Left click for a three-hit combo, hold it for a charged attack. Right click to guard, and block at the right moment to parry. Land hits to fill your gauge, then press Q for the form's finisher. E and R are its two abilities.

20 formsThe 20 forms

Predators, small critters and a whole flock of birds. Each form has its own body, its own size and its own way to move.

Signature movesWerewolf

Werewolf

Sprint and jump to lunge forward. Howl to scatter nearby creatures and call the pack. Low on health, frenzy makes your claws hit harder. Crouch still to sense every creature around you.

Bear

Bear

Heavy paw strikes knock enemies away. Roar to pull hostile creatures onto you. Wild bears see you as one of their own. Call on your survival instinct to heal over a few seconds.

Crocodile

Crocodile

Steer through water. Lie still to set an ambush. Bite in the water to drag your prey into a death roll. Harden your scale skin, or stun your enemy with a tail strike.

Hawk

Hawk

Take to the sky, then dive onto your target for a shockwave on impact. Clap your wings to hurl enemies into the air.

Spider & Cave Spider

Spider & Cave Spider

Climb walls, walk on ceilings and pull yourself anywhere with a silk thread. Your web wraps enemies in a cocoon. Throw balls of web, or unleash a silk storm.

Rabbit

Rabbit

Fast kicks, a flying kick from the air and a rising moon flash kick that stuns. Dig a burrow to vanish underground and burst out behind your target.

Raven

Raven

Summon up to three crows and send them after your target. Call them back to shield you, unleash a swarm that sweeps enemies away, then drop three exploding crows.

Frog

Frog

Fight from range with tongue lashes and a charged tongue. Toxic skin, a sticky spit that stuns and a triple elemental spit. Snatch small animals with your tongue and swallow them whole to heal. Crouch to charge a long, high leap.

Fox

Fox

Quicker on your feet, with a sprinting leap that carries you further.

Scouts

Scouts

Small animals like the Rat, the Squirrel or the Owl. Hostile creatures ignore you, unless they hunt your kind in the wild. Birds fly, and the smallest slip through gaps no human fits into.

Feminine forms

Feminine forms

Some forms have a female version. As the game has no body types, your character must wear feminine underwear to enable it.

The Altar of BeastsThe Altar of Beasts and its ritual circle

The Altar of Beasts keeps every spirit you have bound. Each beast has its own place in the ritual circle, and the one in the centre is the form H gives you. Change it whenever you stand before an altar.

Bound beasts leave you alone while you're bound.

Build your own altar. Workbench: 20 rock and 10 bone fragments.

Multiplayer & servers

  • Every player builds their own collection of spirits.
  • Server owners can tune each world: how long a form lasts, its mana cost, the trophy drop chance, and which forms are allowed.
  • Admin command: /form unlock <form|all> [player], /form active <form|none> [player], /form reset [player].

Early access

BeastBound is in active development and more forms are on the way. Right now we're eager for player feedback: it will shape the next improvements and the balancing of every form. Tell us what you want to become in the comments, and report any bug there too.

A note from the developer

BeastBound is a one-person project: every form, idea and design choice comes from me, and I test and tune everything myself. It comes from ideas I have had for a long time, not particularly tied to Hytale.
I know not everyone welcomes AI. With the time and programming skills I have, AI-assisted coding is, for now, the only way I can bring this mod to life the way I envision it.
The forms are built from Hytale’s own models, textures and sounds. The current ability icons are AI-generated and will be replaced as the mod gets its own art direction.
Artists and developers who’d like to get involved are welcome to reach out.
