About this project

What does DeathCompass add?

JOIN_OUR_DISCORD MODRINTH

A simple quality-of-life mod that gives you a clear way back to your stuff. When you respawn, you automatically receive a Death Compass that points exactly to your last death location — less frustration, without feeling like a cheat.

Install on the server. Client installation is optional (vanilla clients can use it). Works in singleplayer — just drop it into your mods folder.

Dependencies: Fabric & NeoForge require Architectury API (and Fabric API on Fabric). Forge requires no additional dependencies.

Free to use in any modpack — public or private, no permission needed.

What it does

  • Compass on Respawn — if you have a recorded death location, a lodestone-targeted Death Compass is placed in your inventory when you respawn.
  • Points to Your Loot — guides you straight back to where you died.
  • Vanilla Feel — uses familiar compass mechanics; spins randomly if you are in a different dimension than the death, like a normal compass.
  • Full Inventory — if your inventory is full, the compass drops at your feet.

Configuration

Zero configuration — no config file, no recipes, no commands, no keybinds. Install it and it runs whenever a player dies.

Details

  • Server-side grant — the server gives the compass; nothing has to be installed on the client for multiplayer.
  • Fully translated into 10 languages: English, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, and Italian.
  • No builds for Minecraft 26.1 (Fabric & NeoForge). 26.1.2 remains — for other 26.1.x builds stay on 1.0.0, or move to 26.2 / 26.3.
