About this project

What does RandRolls add?

RandRolls

MCRandRolls adds Destiny-inspired randomized loot to Minecraft. Swords, axes, and bows can drop with their own rarity, stats, perks, and perk tiers, turning ordinary loot into weapons worth comparing and building around.

Find rolled weapons from mobs and chests, improve them at the Reroll Station, lock the perks you want to keep, and continue rerolling until you get the roll you are looking for. The mod is designed to fit into normal survival progression while giving server owners extensive control over balance and drop rates.

Randomized Weapons

Every rolled weapon can include:

  • One of four rarities: Common, Rare, Legendary, or Exotic
  • Randomized damage
  • Randomized attack speed
  • Randomized durability
  • Additional stat bonuses
  • Randomly selected perks
  • Perk tiers from Tier I to Tier III
  • Rarity-coloured names and tooltips

By default, higher rarities can roll more perks:

  • Common — 1 perk
  • Rare — up to 2 perks
  • Legendary — up to 3 perks
  • Exotic — up to 4 perks

These limits, stat ranges, perk strengths, and rarity weights are configurable.

37 Perks

Every perk can roll from Tier I to Tier III, with higher tiers improving its strength, duration, range, or chance to activate.

Tag-based limits prevent incompatible or overly powerful perk combinations from rolling together by default. Perk availability, weights, and limits can be changed in the server configuration.

Elemental and Damage-over-Time Perks

  • Scorch — Burns the target, dealing damage over time.
  • Chill — Slows the target and reduces its combat effectiveness for a limited duration.
  • Jolt — Chains arc lightning from the target to nearby enemies.
  • Volatile — Causes killed enemies to explode and damage other nearby enemies.
  • Bleed — Applies stacking damage over time. The maximum number of stacks increases with the perk tier.
  • Blight — Deals damage over time and reduces the target's incoming healing.
  • Drain — Heals the attacker on hit and applies a weaker Blight effect to the target.
  • Rime — Applies a longer-lasting Chill effect.
  • Spark — Gives hits a chance to chain arc damage to another nearby target.
  • Solar Flare — Precision hits release a nearby Scorch pulse.

Damage and Combat Perks

  • Kill Clip — Grants a temporary damage bonus after killing an enemy.
  • Precision Instrument — Increases damage dealt by precision hits.
  • Frenzy — Grants increased damage after remaining in sustained combat.
  • Opening Shot — Increases the damage of the first hit after being out of combat.
  • Guillotine — Deals additional damage to enemies below a health threshold.
  • CleaveMelee only. Splashes a percentage of hit damage to nearby enemies.
  • Aftershock — Gives hits a chance to release a radial burst that damages nearby enemies.
  • Rampage — Kills grant stacking temporary damage bonuses.
  • Vorpal — Deals increased damage to targets with a high maximum-health pool.
  • Trench BarrelMelee only. Deals increased damage to targets at close range.
  • Demoralize — Applies Weakness to enemies on hit.
  • Feeding Frenzy — Grants Haste after killing an enemy.
  • Surplus — Causes killed enemies to drop additional experience.
  • ArrowheadBows only. Increases arrow damage.

Origin Traits

Rare, Legendary, and Exotic weapons can roll an Origin Trait. Exotic weapons may instead receive an intrinsic Origin Trait linked to their name or visual variant.

  • Enduring Presence — Periodically grants Regeneration while the weapon is held.
  • PiercingBows only. Allows arrows to pierce additional targets.
  • Iron Lungs — Periodically grants Resistance while the weapon is held.
  • Sprint Grip — Periodically grants Speed while the weapon is held.
  • Reconstruction — Gradually repairs the weapon while it is held.
  • Subsistence — Restores health after killing an enemy.
  • Wellspring — Grants temporary absorption hearts after killing an enemy.
  • ImpulseMelee only. Adds extra knockback to attacks.
  • Eagle EyeBows only. Increases arrow damage.
  • Threat Detector — Periodically reveals nearby hostile mobs while the weapon is held.

Passive and Defensive Perks

  • Reassurance — Periodically grants Regeneration while the weapon is held and the player is below a health threshold.
  • Lightweight — Periodically grants Speed while the weapon is held.
  • Keep GoingMelee only. Grants Resistance after the player takes damage.

Survival Progression

During normal survival play, rolled weapons can be found through:

  • Mob drops
  • Generated chest loot

Server administrators can also create rolled weapons with commands. Existing rolled weapons can then be improved at the Reroll Station.

Default loot chances:

  • Mob drops — 1.5%
  • Generated chests — 5%
  • Ancient City and End City chests — 2.5× the normal chest chance

Drop chances, rarity weights, and perk pools are configurable.

Reroll Station

The Reroll Station supports rolled swords, axes, and bows.

Craft it by placing an Iron Block in the centre of a crafting table and filling every other slot with Wooden Planks.

Insert a rolled weapon and spend XP levels to reroll its stats and perks. The default reroll cost is five levels.

Perks can be individually locked before rerolling. Locked perks remain on the weapon, but each additional lock increases the XP cost exponentially. This lets you preserve the strongest parts of a roll while continuing to replace the rest.

Exotic Weapons

Exotic weapons are the rarest available rolls and can include:

  • Randomized exotic names
  • Intrinsic Origin Traits
  • Special sword and axe visual variants
  • The highest default perk limit
  • Stronger overall stat potential

Most rolled weapons retain a standard Sword, Axe, or Bow name. Exotic weapons use generated names to make individual drops feel distinct.

Damage Numbers and Visuals

RandRolls includes:

  • Floating damage numbers for direct hits
  • Damage numbers for tracked damage-over-time effects
  • Rarity-coloured item names and tooltips
  • Detailed perk and stat tooltips
  • GeckoLib sword models and animations
  • Custom bow visuals
  • Exotic sword and axe variants

Client-side damage numbers, animations, and tooltip options can be adjusted or disabled in the client configuration.

Repairing and Enchanting

Rolled weapons can be repaired with Echo Shards in an anvil.

Supported enchantments include:

  • Looting
  • Unbreaking
  • Infinity on bows
  • Other enchantments allowed by normal Minecraft item and enchantment rules

Commands

RandRolls includes commands for testing, server administration, and custom item creation.

Commands that create or modify weapons require permission level 2. Read-only commands, such as inspection and perk listing, can be used without modification access.

Give a Rolled Weapon

/mcrandrolls give <targets> <sword|axe|bow> [rarity]

Creates a rolled weapon for the selected player or players. The rarity can be left random or set to Common, Rare, Legendary, or Exotic.

Reroll a Held Weapon

/mcrandrolls reroll <targets> [rarity]

Rerolls the selected players' held RandRolls weapons. An optional rarity can be supplied.

Inspect a Weapon

/mcrandrolls inspect <targets>

Displays the rarity, weapon type, core stats, and perks stored on the selected players' held weapons.

List Available Perks

/mcrandrolls perk list [weapon]

Lists registered perks, optionally filtered for a sword, axe, or bow.

Add or Replace a Perk

/mcrandrolls perk set <targets> <perk> <tier>

Applies a selected perk and tier to the held weapon. The command validates the weapon type, perk compatibility, tier, available perk slots, and configured perk limits.

Remove a Perk

/mcrandrolls perk remove <targets> <perk>

Removes the selected perk from the held weapon. Protected Exotic intrinsic perks cannot be removed.

Clear All Perks

/mcrandrolls perk clear <targets> confirm

Removes every removable perk from the held weapon. Protected Exotic intrinsic perks are retained. The required confirm argument helps prevent accidental use.

Commands support autocomplete, multiple targets, rarity selection, perk tiers, and both short and namespaced perk IDs.

The older /mcrandrolls roll command remains available as a deprecated alias.
