About this project
What does Renri's Bestiary add?
Renri's Bestiary
**A living encyclopedia that fills itself in as you play.**
Renri's Bestiary adds a player-personal bestiary book that automatically records the mobs you slay, the items you obtain, and the biomes you visit. No manual entries, no datapack curation — just play, and watch your collection grow.
Getting started
Craft the Bestiary Book with a **Book + Rotten Flesh** (shapeless). Right-click to open it. If you lose it, just craft another — your records are saved on you, not the book.
What it records
🧟 Mobs
- Slay any mob to record it: **HP / Attack / Defense**, kill count, and an automatically calculated **rarity tier** (★ Common → ★★★★★ Legendary) based on its stats and boss status
- **Observed drops**: only drops you have actually seen are revealed — keep hunting to complete each mob's drop list. A "?" slot reminds you there may be more
- **Spawn biomes**: built by scanning every biome's spawn settings at world load, so it stays accurate even with biome-modifier mods. Mobs that never spawn naturally show "Appears under special conditions"
- Undiscovered mobs show as ??? — no spoilers
💎 Items
Pick up, craft, or smelt an item to record it, with first-obtained day and lifetime count.
🌲 Biomes
Enter a biome to record it, with first-visited day. Each biome page also lists **which creatures can spawn there** — great for tracking down that one missing mob.
Works with every mod, automatically
Everything is driven by registries and events at runtime. Modded mobs, items and biomes are included in the bestiary (and in the completion percentage) with **zero configuration** — add or remove mods and the book adapts. Bosses from popular mods (Cataclysm, Twilight Forest, Aether, Mowzie's Mobs, BOMD, Iron's Spellbooks…) are pre-tagged for the boss rarity bonus.
Made for long play
- Per-tab **completion percentage** — can you reach 100% in a 300+ mod pack?
- Search box and Found / Missing filters
- Rotating 3D mob preview in the detail panel
- Toast notifications on new discoveries
- Per-player data (multiplayer friendly), survives death
Configuration
config/renribestiary-common.toml: rarity thresholds, boss/modded bonuses, biome poll interval, toast on/off- Datapack tags:
renribestiary:excluded(entity_type / item / worldgen biome) to hide entries,renribestiary:boss_liketo add bosses (missing IDs are safely ignored)
*Requires NeoForge 21.1+ on Minecraft 1.21.1. Required on both server and client.*
