About this project

What does Better Nether Portals add?

Better Nether Portals

Tired of the same old 4×5 rectangle? Better Nether Portals lets you build Nether portals in any shape and orientation, as long as the obsidian frame is closed and connected.

Light it with flint and steel and it just works.

Features
• Any shape ~ hearts, diamonds, crosses, circles, custom builds, and more
• Any orientation ~ upright walls or flat on the floor / ceiling
• Crying Obsidian supported in the frame
• Proper portal linking ~ return through a portal and you’ll come back to the same one you used
• Works with vanilla Nether travel (no extra items or rituals)

How to use

  1. Build a closed frame of Obsidian (or Crying Obsidian).
  2. Leave the interior empty (air).
  3. Light the inside with flint and steel.
  4. Walk through same as a normal Nether portal.

Minimum size can be as small as a 1×1 opening (four obsidian around one portal block). Maximum interior size matches vanilla’s large-portal limit (up to 21×21 / 441 blocks).
