About this project
What does Backported Shelf add?
Backported Shelf (1.20.1 - Fabric)
This mod backports the vanilla Shelf block to Minecraft 1.20.1, so players still using older versions as myself can still use it as a decorative storage-style display block.
Features:
- Adds the Shelf block in all 12 wood types: Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Mangrove, Cherry, Bamboo, Crimson, Warped, and Pale Oak
- Each shelf uses its own unique texture matching the correct wood type
- Craftable using 6 stripped logs of a matching wood type (3-top, 3-bottom pattern), yielding 6 shelves per craft
- Directional placemen. The shelf faces you when placed, like a furnace or crafting table, so it reads correctly no matter which wall you mount it on
- Accurate hitbox matching the real shelf's shape, including the open notch at the top front, rather than a plain solid box
- All 12 variants appear in their own Creative inventory tab for easy access
- Fully compatible with recipe-viewer mods like JEI, REI, or EMI.
How this affects your experience:
Players get the same decorative wall-shelf furniture piece from the newer game versions, without needing to update their world or other mods to a version that isn't out yet.
Current scope: This version focuses on the block's appearance, placement, and crafting. It does not yet include the newer item-display/storage functionality (storing items on the shelf, hopper/comparator support, or the redstone-powered hotbar-swap feature) that's planned as a future update.
