About this project

What does Sideways & Beyond add?

Sideways & Beyond (Now with 311+ new stairs!)

Latest Update: The massive 311+ New Stairs Update is now live! Expanding your building catalog across 3 creative tabs.

Take your Minecraft builds to the next level with unrestricted architectural freedom! This is a lightweight and essential building mod that introduces a completely overhauled placement mechanic for stairs and other blocks in Minecraft, now supercharged with a massive update containing 311 new standard stair variants from 3 creative tabs!

Features

Massive New Stair Collection

Adds 311 vanilla+ standard-shaped stairs crafted from every full solid block found in the Building Blocks, Colored Blocks, and Natural Blocks from creative tabs!

Unique & Stabilized Block Properties

Many of these 311 new vanilla+ stairs inherit the exact functional traits of their source materials. Ice Stairs are slippery, Soul Sand Stairs slow you down, and stairs for blocks like Farmland or Leaves are permanently stabilized so they will never decay, dry out, or revert to dirt.

56 Custom Stair & 59 Vertical Slab Variants

Every single vanilla stair and slab type from Minecraft 1.21.x has been completely remade to support sideways and vertical placement!

Custom Creative Tabs

All new blocks are neatly organized inside their own dedicated tabs (Sideways Stairs, Vertical Slabs and Vanilla+ Stairs) in the Creative Inventory for fast and easy access while building.

Vanilla Fire & Tool Behavior

Wooden variants naturally catch fire and burn away, and act as a balanced fuel source in furnaces. Stone variants integrate flawlessly with pickaxe tier requirements.

Crafting Guide

Stairs and slabs made from materials like wood, slime blocks, or dirt can be crafted on the crafting table. Other stairs and slabs made from solid materials like sea lanterns or gold blocks can be crafted only on the stonecutter.

1. Stonecutter

The fastest way to get stairs or slabs is by using the standard vanilla Stonecutter. Just place any regular stone stair or slab inside to slice it into its custom counterpart!

2. Crafting Table

You can also easily make wooden and soft stairs (dirt, froglight, etc.) and slabs on the Crafting table.

Development Roadmap & Future Plans

To ensure the highest level of quality and polish, the development of this mod will follow a structured, step-by-step roadmap. My primary focus is to perfect the core vanilla material expansion before branching out into multiple modding platforms:

1) Vanilla+ Stairs — expands the standard horizontal stairs catalog with a vast range of new vanilla-styled materials (completed);

2) Vanilla+ Sideways Stairs — delivers flawless, block-accurate sideways configurations for all the newly added stair types (in progress);

3) Vanilla+ Slabs — introduces the same extensive variety of new vanilla-styled materials for traditional horizontal slabs;

4) Vanilla+ Vertical Slabs — implements vertical slab variations across the entire new material catalog following vanilla design standards;

Important Note on Mod Loaders: Official releases for Fabric and Forge will be developed only after this core roadmap is fully realized. Building a solid foundation first allows me to guarantee a bug-free, highly optimized experience when porting the mod to other loaders later.
