About this project

What does LonKraft API add?

LonKraft Map Template

LonKraft Map Template is a world-template generation API/framework for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1, designed primarily for adventure maps, custom campaigns and modpacks that need to start from a predefined world instead of relying on standard Minecraft terrain generation.

Originally developed for the LonKraft Modpack, the system can also serve as a foundation for other custom adventure-map projects.

What does it do?

The mod allows a prepared custom world to be used as a template. When starting a new adventure, it creates a fresh playable copy of that template while removing data that should not be inherited from the original map.

This makes it possible to distribute handcrafted terrain, structures, cities, bunkers, quest areas or entire custom landscapes while still giving the player a clean new world.

Features

  • Template-based custom world generation

  • Designed for adventure maps and modpacks

  • Creates a fresh world from a prebuilt map template

  • Automatically generates a separate world copy

  • Removes inherited player data

  • Removes inherited advancements and statistics

  • Cleans session-specific world data

  • Prevents player information from the original level.dat from being carried over

  • Handles first-time player spawning in generated worlds

  • Integrates directly with the Minecraft world selection/creation interface

  • Useful for handcrafted terrain and heavily customized adventure worlds

Why use a world template?

Procedural generation is not always suitable for adventure maps.

With a template-based system, map creators have complete control over the terrain and environment players will experience. You can prepare the world beforehand using Minecraft, WorldPainter, custom structures or other mapping tools, then use LonKraft Map Template to provide players with a clean instance of that world.

This is particularly useful for:

  • Adventure maps

  • Story-driven modpacks

  • RPG maps

  • Post-apocalyptic worlds

  • Custom survival experiences

  • Handcrafted open worlds

  • Pre-generated cities and structures

  • Controlled quest environments

    How Does It Work?

    1. Create or prepare your custom Minecraft world using Minecraft, WorldPainter or any compatible map-building tool.

    2. Place the finished world inside the lonkraft-template folder in the Minecraft directory.

    3. LonKraft Map Template detects this world and uses it as the master template.

    4. When the player starts a new adventure, the mod creates a fresh and independent copy of the template.

    5. Player-specific data such as inventory/player NBT, advancements, statistics and session information is automatically removed from the copy.

    6. The newly generated world is then loaded as a clean adventure-map instance while keeping the original terrain, structures and world design intact.

The original template is never used directly as the player's save, allowing a fresh adventure to be created again whenever needed.

Originally built for LonKraft

This project was initially created to power the custom world system used by the LonKraft Modpack, but its template-based approach makes it useful as a foundation for other Minecraft adventure-map projects as well.
