About this project

What does Backport 26.3 Update add?

Backport

Backport brings content and gameplay features from Minecraft Java 26.3 to older Minecraft versions.

The mod adds new world generation, blocks, furniture, exploration content, gameplay changes, and vanilla bug fixes that can be reproduced on older versions.

Dappled Forest

A new forest biome with:

  • Poplar trees with red, orange, and yellow leaves
  • Falling leaf particles and ambient sounds
  • Fallen trees
  • Shelf Mushrooms
  • Red Shrubs
  • Cold animal variants on versions where they can be implemented

Abandoned Camps

Abandoned Camps generate across the Overworld.

They include:

  • 18 biome-based variants
  • Different camp layouts
  • Chests and barrels with loot
  • Explorer Maps that can lead to camps and other structures

New Blocks and Decoration

Backport adds:

  • The full Poplar wood set
  • Poplar signs and hanging signs
  • Poplar boats and chest boats
  • Wool stairs and slabs in all 16 colors
  • Concrete stairs and slabs in all 16 colors
  • Cushions in all 16 colors
  • Straw Beds
  • Shelf Mushrooms
  • Red Shrubs

Cushions can be placed and sat on.

The Straw Bed lets you sleep through the night without changing your respawn point. It breaks after use.

Explorer Maps

The mod adds 16 Explorer Map types for different structures and locations, including:

  • Abandoned Camps
  • Ancient Cities
  • Mineshafts
  • Desert Pyramids
  • Warm Ocean Ruins
  • Villages
  • Other vanilla structures

Explorer Maps have their own icons and show the direction the player is facing.

They can be cloned but cannot be zoomed out.

Gameplay Changes

Backported gameplay changes include:

  • Shelf Mushrooms can be bounced on
  • Mushroom Stew can be crafted using any two mushrooms
  • Poplar Saplings and Shelf Mushrooms can appear in Wandering Trader trades
  • Shields take priority when used together with hoes or shovels
  • Drowned holding Tridents use melee attacks at close range
  • Spectators can travel through portals
  • Changes to mob behavior
  • Changes to boats and projectiles
  • Potion and status effect fixes
  • Various vanilla bug fixes from Minecraft 26.3

Version Differences

Some Minecraft 26.3 changes cannot be backported directly.

Backport does not port engine-level changes such as Vulkan, SDL3, rendering system changes, or changes to Minecraft's internal data formats.

Some features may work differently or be unavailable on older Minecraft versions when the required vanilla systems do not exist.

Configuration

The config allows several features to be enabled or disabled, including:

  • Dappled Forest generation
  • Abandoned Camp generation
  • Wandering Trader trades
  • Shelf Mushroom bouncing
  • Mushroom Stew recipe changes
  • Backported vanilla bug fixes
