Better Snow Golem

Snow Golems are no longer disposable snowball turrets.

Better Snow Golem turns them into useful village guards that can fight, carry ammunition, wear visible armor, patrol supply chests and work together with villagers and Iron Golems. The mod keeps them balanced and close to vanilla Minecraft: they become smarter and more useful, not overpowered.

⚔️ Snow Golems That Can Actually Fight

Snow Golems keep their distance, strafe around enemies and retreat when a monster gets too close. They notice immediate danger, avoid water and stop chasing targets they cannot see through walls or floors.

They protect villagers, Iron Golems and other Snow Golems. They do not deliberately attack their own allies, and helping another guard will not make them ignore the monster already standing next to them.

Hostile mobs actively attack Snow Golems and Iron Golems. This includes Zombies, Drowned, Skeletons, Creepers and compatible hostile mobs added by other mods. Creepers can also target and explode near both types of Golems.

🪨 Pebbles, Wind Charges and Real Ammunition

Craft 9 Pebbles from 1 Cobblestone. A Pebble deals 3 damage (1.5 hearts) and stacks to 64.

Pebbles can be:

• Thrown by players
• Fired by Dispensers
• Used as ammunition by Snow Golems
• Enchanted with Power, Punch, Flame, Infinity, Multishot and Piercing
• Coated with potion effects by crafting 8 Pebbles around a Lingering Potion

Snow Golems can also use Wind Charges. Each Snow Golem carries up to 32 projectiles and reloads from its supply chest. Several guards can share one chest without a single Snow Golem taking all the ammunition.

If a village guard runs out of Pebbles, it temporarily uses knockback Snowballs instead.

🪖 Helmets and Snow Golem Bags

Use Shears to remove the pumpkin, then equip the Snow Golem with a helmet.

Snow Golem Bags are available in six tiers:

• Leather
• Copper
• Iron
• Gold
• Diamond
• Netherite

Bags provide armor, toughness and knockback resistance. They also stop the Snow Golem from leaving a snow trail. The Leather Bag can be dyed and prevents the Snow Golem from sinking into Powder Snow.

Helmets and Bags appear directly on the Snow Golem as custom 3D equipment.

Fully equip a Snow Golem with a helmet and a Bag to unlock “Mom Said: Dress Warm!”

📦 Supply Chests and Patrol Areas

Place a Chest within 4 blocks of an unassigned Snow Golem to give it a patrol post. The Chest can be placed before or after the Snow Golem appears. If the Chest is destroyed, the same Snow Golem can bind to a new nearby Chest.

The block underneath the Chest controls the patrol radius:

• Normal block: 16 blocks
• Copper block: 24 blocks
• Iron block: 32 blocks
• Gold block: 48 blocks
• Diamond block: 64 blocks
• Netherite block: 64 blocks

The Snow Golem may leave this area to fight, but it returns to its Chest afterwards.

🏡 Snow Golems in Villages and Igloos

Snowy villages can generate in Snowy Taiga, Ice Spikes and Grove biomes.

Each snowy Leatherworker house can generate with:

• One Leatherworker who takes care of the guards
• One supply chest with ammunition
• 1–3 Snow Golems wearing leather helmets
• Its own independent patrol post

If one of these Snow Golems dies, the Leatherworker walks to a safe open location and rebuilds it step by step with Snow Blocks, a Pumpkin, Shears, a helmet and ammunition. If that Leatherworker dies, another adult villager can take over. Unemployed villagers get priority.

Every newly generated natural Igloo contains one Snow Golem wearing a worn leather helmet and one Chest with Pebbles and Snowballs. The Chest is placed against the wall at the end of the bed, and its contents are scattered across random slots like normal structure loot.

These world-generation features appear only in newly generated chunks.

❤️ Iron Golems Can Fall in Love

On rare occasions, an Iron Golem offers a Poppy to a Snow Golem. The Snow Golem can accept or reject it.

• If the Snow Golem accepts, both show heart particles and become partners. The Iron Golem stays near that Snow Golem, and a small red heart appears on its chest.
• If the Snow Golem rejects the Poppy, only the Iron Golem becomes upset. Its face changes, angry particles appear and it will not propose to that same Snow Golem again for 3 in-game days.
• If a partner dies, the surviving Golem mourns for 6 in-game days with a sad face, a broken heart and recurring broken-heart particles.

These events are intentionally rare, so the entire village does not turn into a permanent cloud of hearts.

🥕 Healing and Faces

• Snowballs heal a Snow Golem for 4 HP (2 hearts)
• A Powder Snow Bucket fully heals it
• Natural snowfall slowly restores health

Right-click a Snow Golem with a Carrot to cycle through four faces:

• Chill
• Locked In
• A Little 67
• Carrot Boss

Carrot Boss adds a real carrot nose. Use an empty hand to remove the nose and drop the Carrot back into the world.
