Passable Foliage Forked is an **unofficial and independently maintained fork** of the original Passable Foliage mod created by Snownee.

The purpose of this fork is to keep the Fabric/Quilt edition available for newer stable Minecraft versions while continuing to provide compatibility updates, maintenance and bug fixes.

This project is not affiliated with or endorsed by Snownee or the maintainers of the original project.

All credit for the original concept and implementation goes to Snownee and the previous contributors to Passable Foliage.

What does the mod do?

Passable Foliage allows players and entities to move through leaves and other blocks included in the passablefoliage:passables block tag.

Foliage interaction remains configurable and can include:

  • Horizontal and vertical movement reduction.
  • Reduced fall damage when landing in leaves.
  • Movement and impact sounds.
  • Entity pathfinding support.
  • Player-only passage.
  • The Leaf Walker enchantment.
  • Collision when approaching foliage from below.
  • Name-tag hiding while an entity is fully inside foliage.

Fork version 2.0

Version 2.0 is a substantial maintenance rewrite of the Fabric port for Minecraft Java 26.2.

Changes include:

  • Updated to Minecraft Java 26.2 and Java 25.
  • Updated Fabric Loader, Fabric API, Fabric Loom and Gradle.
  • Removed the Kiwi dependency.
  • Replaced Kiwi registration and resource conditions with native Fabric and vanilla implementations.
  • Replaced the old YAML configuration system with a validated JSON configuration.
  • Added automatic migration of supported options from the previous configuration file.
  • Added strict configuration parsing, numeric validation and a file-size limit.
  • Added atomic configuration writes.
  • Fixed the inverted name-tag visibility behavior.
  • Fixed foliage slowdown when alwaysLeafWalking is enabled.
  • Improved temporary collision-state handling.
  • Removed excessive logging from entity movement processing.
  • Updated datagen, tags and resource formats for Minecraft 26.2.
  • Updated and verified the Gradle Wrapper.
  • Removed unnecessary development files and bundled executables.

Requirements

  • Minecraft Java 26.2
  • Java 25
  • Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer
  • Fabric API 0.158.0 or newer
  • Fabric or a compatible Quilt Loader installation

The mod is required on both the client and server when used in multiplayer.

Installation

  1. Install Fabric Loader or a compatible Quilt Loader for Minecraft 26.2.
  2. Install Fabric API.
  3. Place PassableFoliageForked2.0.jar in the Minecraft mods directory.
  4. Remove the original Passable Foliage JAR if it is installed.

The original mod and this fork must not be installed together because the fork intentionally preserves the original technical mod ID for world and configuration compatibility.

Back up important worlds before replacing mods.

Configuration

The configuration file is created at:

config/passablefoliage.json

Known values from the previous passablefoliage-common.yaml configuration are migrated automatically when possible. The old file is not deleted.
