About this project

What does Burn Punishment add?

Burn Punishment

Burn Punishment is a hardcore and realistic survival mod that overhauls how players interact with fire and lava. Say goodbye to brief, harmless fire ticks — now, carelessness will result in a severe, lingering "Burn" effect.

As with all my mods, this project was originally created for my own modpack. Therefore, its main target audience is modpack developers, offering deep customization of all mechanics to achieve the perfect balance.

🔥 Mechanics & Features

The Burn Effect: Falling into fire or lava has a chance to inflict a custom "Burn" potion effect. While active, your Max Health, Movement Speed, and Attack Speed are noticeably reduced.

Dynamic Protection: You can protect yourself using specific thermal armor (configurable). Each protected piece grants a base 25% chance to resist the burn. Wearing a full set gives 100% immunity.

Enchantment Synergy: The vanilla "Fire Protection" enchantment matters! Each level of this enchantment on any armor piece grants an additional percentage of burn resistance.

Armor Degradation: If your protection fails, the intense heat will severely damage the durability of all your worn armor. Say goodbye to swimming in lava with basic iron gear!

Environmental Interaction: The environment reacts to your burns. Standing in water or rain rapidly cools you down, draining the effect's duration. Additionally (if enabled), hot biomes (like the Nether) prolong the burn, while cold biomes shorten it.(disabled by default)

Standard buckets of milk will not cure the Burn effect! You must consume specific food (like Apples or Golden Apples) to soothe the burn. Eating a curative food will clear the effect instantly, accompanied by a visual particle confirmation.

👾 Mob Burn Mechanics (Configurable)

Full Mob Support: Mobs and hostile creatures (including modded entities like Scape and Run: Parasites) can now catch the Burn effect when exposed to fire or lava.

Independent Stat Scaling: Mobs use a dedicated set of configurable debuffs separate from player penalties. You can configure flat Max Health reductions alongside percentage-based Movement Speed and Attack Speed penalties to keep high-health modded mobs balanced.

Fire Immunity & Cleansing: Naturally fire-immune mobs (such as Nether entities) and entities under the Fire Resistance potion effect cannot be burned. Applying Fire Resistance cleanses active burns immediately.

Environmental Cooling: Wet mobs (standing in water or caught in the rain) will steadily extinguish, rapidly draining the remaining burn duration.

Adaptive Witch AI: Witches suffering from a burn will react to the threat and attempt to drink a Potion of Fire Resistance to cure themselves.

Interactive & Multiplayer Mechanics

Save Your Pets: Don't let your loyal companions suffer! You can right-click any burning pet (or mob) with a curative food item (like a Golden Apple) to instantly remove the Burn effect. This will consume the item and spawn happy visual particles.

Snowball Extinguisher: Need to save a friend in the Nether? Hitting a burning player or mob with a snowball will instantly shave off a chunk of their burn duration (amount of reduced ticks is fully configurable). Perfect for multiplayer teamwork!

⚙️ Highly Configurable

Everything is in your hands! Through the config file, you can change:

The exact duration of the Burn effect.

The list of valid protective armor and curing foods (supports cross-mod integration via modid:item).

The amount of durability damage armor takes in fire.

The bonus protection percentage granted by the Fire Protection enchantment.

Toggle vanilla fire damage blocking, biome temperature modifiers, and healing particles.
