About this project
What does Async Chat Ported add?
📖 Overview
In vanilla Minecraft, chat message processing—including receiving, parsing, formatting, and security checks—is executed synchronously on the main rendering thread. When network latency is high or the server responds slowly, these operations can block rendering, causing noticeable frame drops, freezes, and "spike" frame times—especially in multiplayer environments where messages are frequently exchanged.
This mod solves that problem by offloading all chat processing to a dedicated background thread.
🔄 What Has Changed in 1.20.4?
The original Async Chat mod targeted an older Minecraft version where the primary chat interception point was the handleChatMessage(PlayerChatMessage, ChatType.Bound) method.
In Minecraft 1.20.4, Mojang has removed this method and replaced it with a new signature:handlePlayerChatMessage(...) which now includes a GameProfile parameter. This change reflects internal updates to how player identity and chat types are managed.
⚙️ How It Works
Interception – When a chat message arrives from the server, the mod intercepts it immediately.
Offloading – The message is handed off to a separate background thread.
Async Processing – All expensive operations (parsing, validation, history updates, etc.) run asynchronously on this background thread. The main rendering thread remains uninterrupted, ensuring smooth and consistent FPS.
Safe Rendering – Once background processing is complete, only the thread-safe rendering data is passed back to the main thread for a lightweight UI update. The chat message appears with minimal performance impact.
