Sort & Stack

Description

Sort & Stack is a modern take on the classic Inventory Tweaks: no clutter on screen, just the inventory handling that should have been there all along — plus two ideas of its own.

Sorting in one click — three small buttons in the corner above every container grid: pack it tight, sort into columns, or sort into rows. Middle-click does the same and cycles the layouts, and R sorts your inventory at any time. Your hotbar is never rearranged.
Auto-refill — when a tool breaks or a stack of blocks runs out, the same item is pulled from your inventory into the same hotbar slot. The least worn spare is chosen first.
Drag to move — hold Shift or Ctrl and sweep the mouse across slots to move everything you touch in one gesture.
Container types (off by default) — give a chest a type: wood, ores, tools, food, building blocks, redstone, or one you define yourself. A typed chest only accepts its own category, and its type replaces the title so you can read a storage room at a glance. A shulker box keeps its type when picked up and placed again.
Quick stack to nearby containers (off by default) — one button, or the G key, sends items into chests within range that already hold them, so nothing ends up scattered at random. Chests typed as General collect whatever no other chest took.

Sorting runs on the server, so it is instant rather than a burst of simulated clicks, and typed chests refuse an item before the client even predicts the move — no items jumping back and forth.

Installation

Put the mod jar and Fabric API into the mods folder. On a server, install both there as well.

Configuration

Options live in config/invtweaks.json, created on first launch:

Custom container types go into config/invtweaks-types.json, which is created with an example. A type lists item tags, exact item ids, and whether it accepts anything edible; giving it the id of a built-in preset replaces that preset.
