About this project

What does Wings Patch add?

Wings Patch

A small client-side compatibility fix for Wings (by paulevsGitch) that resolves feather rendering breaking under Sodium-family rendering optimizations (Sodium, Embeddium, and similar).

The problem: Avian-style wings (any variant with feather detailing) render as a bare, featherless skeleton — like two plucked chicken wings — when a Sodium-family mod is installed. Insectoid/butterfly-style wings are unaffected. This is a known, previously unfixed issue with Wings under optimized rendering pipelines.

The fix: Wings' feather geometry is built as thin, double-sided quads drawn with a render type that has backface culling enabled. Sodium family optimizations cull those thin geometry faces more aggressively than vanilla rendering does, dropping the feathers while the underlying bone structure still renders fine. This patch switches that render call to a no cull variant, the same approach vanilla itself uses for other thin double-sided geometry (like leaves).

Requirements:

  • Wings 2.1.6+ (required: this patch does nothing without it)
  • NeoForge, Minecraft 1.21.1
  • Any Sodium-family rendering mod (not required to install, but this is the situation it fixes)

Note: This is an independent client side compatibility patch, not affiliated with the Wings mod author.
