About this project
What does ControlSpawn add?
ControlSpawn
Full control over mob spawning — block or boost spawns by height with whitelists and blacklists. Lightweight, server-friendly, and compatible with other mods.
📖 About
ControlSpawn is a utility mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge) that gives you complete control over where mobs are allowed to spawn. Block spawning in a specific height range, boost spawning in another, and fine-tune everything with whitelists and blacklists — all through simple in-game commands.
The mod hooks into Forge's official spawn event instead of patching vanilla code, so it works alongside other mods without conflicts.
✨ Features
Block spawning by height
UP— block spawning above a given Y levelDOWN— block spawning below a given Y levelRANGE— block spawning between two Y levels
Boost spawning by height
Same three modes:
UP,DOWN,RANGEAdjustable multiplier from 1x to 10x
Perfect for mob farms, adventure maps, or themed worlds
Whitelist & Blacklist
Whitelisted mobs ignore block restrictions or become the only targets of boost
Blacklisted mobs are always blocked or always excluded from boost
Separate lists for block and boost channels
Persistent settings — everything is saved and survives world reloads and game restarts
In-game commands with full tab-completion for heights and mob IDs
Smart filtering — only affects natural spawning, chunk generation, and patrols. Spawners, spawn eggs, commands, and summoned mobs are never touched
Compatible with other mods — no Mixins, no patched vanilla classes

💡 Examples
Keep your sky base free of phantoms:
text
/controlspawn block set 180 up
Prevent mobs from spawning deep in your mines:
text
/controlspawn block set -50 down
Block spawning in a specific band (e.g. village level):
text
/controlspawn block range 60 80
Always block phantoms, regardless of height:
text
/controlspawn block blacklist add minecraft:phantom
Boost zombie spawning in a narrow zone:
text
/controlspawn boost range 60 70
/controlspawn boost multiplier 5
/controlspawn boost whitelist add minecraft:zombie
📝 Mob IDs
Use the standard namespace:entity format:
minecraft:zombieminecraft:phantomminecraft:bat
The namespace can be omitted for vanilla mobs — zombie works the same as minecraft:zombie. For modded mobs, use their full ID (e.g. iceandfire:dragon).
