About this project

What does Unbound World - Difficulty and Progression add?

📖 About:

Unbound World turns Minecraft into a Terraria-style progression game. The world starts Sealed - no Nether, no diamonds, no netherite, just you against the raw Overworld. Defeating specific bosses breaks the seal on a new tier at a time, unlocking items, blocks, ores, dimensions, and stronger enemies to match.

The Sealed World System

  • World Stages: The whole world shares one progression track. Killing a stage's boss advances everyone at once - no grinding solo advancements.
  • Sealed Everything: Items, tools, armor, functional blocks, and even ores can be locked behind a stage. A sealed sword won't swing. A sealed ore looks and breaks like plain stone until you've earned it.
  • Sealed Bosses: Bosses are locked in turn - you can't skip ahead and cheese the Wither before you're supposed to reach him.
  • Sealed Dimensions: The Nether and the End stay closed until the stage that grants access is cleared.

Mod Features

  • Full Vanilla Boss Progression: Evoker → Elder Guardian → Warden → Wither → Ender Dragon, each gating a real tier of the game (iron/gold → diamond → Nether access → netherite → the End).
  • Hidden Ores: Locked ores render as stone, deepslate, or netherrack, mine like stone, and drop stone - until the world catches up.
  • Escalating Threats: Hostile mobs get tougher (health, damage, knockback resistance, armor) as the world stage rises, and bosses scale further with how many players are fighting them.
  • Armed Enemies: From a certain stage onward, humanoid mobs start carrying real weapons and armor - configurable per stage, per mob group.
  • The Guide: An in-game overview (default key K) of every stage, its bosses, their drops, and what's still sealed.
  • Fully Data-Driven: Every stage - bosses, drops, locks, scaling, equipment - is defined in simple JSON. Modpack authors can add, remove, or completely rebuild the progression without touching code.

The Choice

Rush the Wither underprepared and get flattened, or take the world one seal at a time. Unbound World doesn't hold your hand - it just makes sure you can't skip the line.

📦 Installation

Required

  • NeoForge

Optional, but recommended

  • AttributeFix — important for late-game scaling. Vanilla caps some attributes (like max health) well below what a heavily-scaled endgame boss can reach; AttributeFix removes that ceiling.
  • Jade — shows a "Sealed" tooltip when looking at locked blocks and ores.
  • Curios API — only needed if a sealed item is equipped in a Curios slot.

📃 Features:

  • 5 default stages, fully vanilla, ready to play out of the box.
  • Items, tools, armor, functional blocks, ores, bosses, and dimensions can all be sealed independently.
  • Ore-hiding is purely visual and drop-based - the real block is never altered, so it's fully compatible with other worldgen mods.
  • Per-stage mob attribute scaling and per-boss player-count scaling.
  • Per-stage mob equipment with full enchantment support, inherited automatically across stages unless overridden.
  • Everything above is configurable per modpack via simple datapack JSON - no coding required to reshape the progression.

📃 Upcoming Features (in Development):

The seals are only the beginning. Here's what's planned:

Unbound World - Bosses

  • Dimension Bosses: Additional bosses per dimension, styled after vanilla mobs, so the game never feels rushed.

Unbound World - Looting Bags

  • Per-Player Loot: Bosses drop a loot bag instead of dumping everything on the ground - every nearby player gets their own roll, no more racing for drops.
  • Fair Multiplayer Loot: No more one player scooping every item before the rest of the party can react.

Unbound World - Progression Book

  • A Real Book: The Guide's keybind-and-screen UI gets replaced with an actual in-world book item and proper book-style design.
