About this project

What does AkoTheEvil's Skill Tree add?

flexible skill tree progression framework for Minecraft which aims to make complex progression systems easy to create, configure and maintain.

The mod provides a clean foundation for creating skill trees with configurable requirements, effects, progression, and data, aiming to serve for both simple RPG-like skill trees as well as more complex progression systems.

Features

Custom trees: Create branching trees with as many paths and nodes as you want. Flexible conditions: Requirements can be set on any items, levels, attributes, advancements, tags of any type, permissions, statistics, other skills, and custom conditions. Multiple requirements: Multiple requirements can be combined using a configurable AND/OR logic. Dependencies: Skills can depend on other skills, nodes or progression. Configurable costs: Costs can be defined as experience, items, currencies, attributes or custom. Passive and active skills: Both permanent bonuses as well as player activated abilities are supported. Player progression: Unlock progress is tracked separately for each player. Extendable API: Modders can extend the mod to register custom skills, conditions, effects and progression. Data driven design: Wherever possible, skill trees and progression can be customized without a separate implementation for every skill. Mod compatibility: Progression can be integrated with other mods and the framework itself is built to be easily extended. Clean organization: Skills, requirements, effects, progression and player progress are all decoupled to allow for complex systems to be organized better.

Advanced conditions

The condition system is one of the main highlights of the mod.

By combining conditions, you can do things like:

Have a specific advancement

Be at a certain experience level

Have a specific item or tag

Have a specific other skill

Modpacks can use this to create progression systems which have more depth than just simple RPG skill trees.

Designed for modpacks

This framework is aimed to be useful to both players and mod devs. Modpack authors can use this to create custom progression systems, while other mods can use the mod's API to integrate with the progression framework.

It can be used for things such as:

RPG character progression

Class systems

Magic progression

Professions

Combat trees

Skill trees for abilities

Quest progression

Custom progression systems for modpacks

Character talent trees

Equipment specialization

Multi-stage advancement trees

Compatibility and integration

The mod acts as a standalone framework, but also provides ways for other mods to extend it.

Other mods can register custom conditions, effects, skills, currencies or other progression related elements without having to touch the main progression code.

Project Goals

The main goals of this project are:

  1. Making complex skill trees easy to create.

  2. A powerful and flexible condition system.

  3. Keeping progression data clean.

  4. Exposing APIs for other mods to utilize.

  5. Not requiring every modpack to use different progression systems at the same time.

This project is not about a single RPG progression system, but the underlying foundation needed to create more complex skill progression systems.
