About this project
What does BareBonesBrews add?
BareBonesBrews
BareBonesBrews lets you brew weaker versions of vanilla and modded potions in a heated water cauldron, using mushrooms in place of nether wart.
The result is a crude potion. Most effects last half as long and lose one level of strength, down to a minimum of level I.
Brewing
- Fill a cauldron completely with water and put a lit campfire underneath.
- Right-click with a red or brown mushroom, then with the brewing ingredients for the potion you want.
- Let it brew, then collect it with glass bottles. One full cauldron makes three bottles.
Add the mushroom and the potion ingredients in any order, one right-click each, up to five items in total. Sneak-right-click before the brew finishes to take the oldest ingredient back.
Add gunpowder to a finished brew in a brewing stand for a crude splash potion, then dragon's breath for a lingering one.
The cauldron needs heat underneath. Campfires, fire, magma blocks, and lava work by default.
Other mods
Crude recipes are generated from the brewing table at runtime, so potions added by other mods work as long as they use the standard brewing system.
JEI, REI, and EMI show the recipes. Jade shows what is in a cauldron.
With Hexalia installed, brewing moves to its small cauldron. Recipes appear in Hexalia's category, and you can leave the mushroom out.
Configuration
Settings are in config/barebonesbrews-common.toml. Effect duration and strength, excluded potion namespaces, and cauldron recipe generation are all there.
Set generate_cauldron_recipes = false to write your own recipes instead of using the generated ones. Brewing still works.
cauldron_heat_sources accepts block IDs, #block_tags, and state conditions such as minecraft:furnace[lit=true]. Its default is ["#barebonesbrews:heat_sources"]. Edit that block tag with a datapack or KubeJS to add or remove heat sources. The setting does not affect Hexalia.
Config changes need a restart. Recipe changes apply on /reload.
Custom recipes
Recipes use data/<namespace>/recipe/<path>.json and the type barebonesbrews:rough_brewing. KubeJS supports event.recipes.barebonesbrews.rough_brewing(result, ingredients).
Override a default recipe by using the same recipe ID, then run /reload.
- Example datapack: copy this folder into your world's
datapacks/directory. It replaces the strength recipe and the heat source list. - KubeJS examples: copy the scripts into
kubejs/server_scripts/. Includes a Hexalia example.
Full documentation, including the recipe ID layout and every config option, is on the wiki.
Installation
Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge. Install on both the client and the server.
All integrations above are optional.
