About this project

What does Librarian Insight add?

Librarian Insight is a comprehensive Minecraft librarian utility designed to make working with Librarians easier, clearer, and more informative without changing vanilla trading mechanics.

At its core, Librarian Insight displays a Librarian's enchanted book trade directly on their lectern, including the full enchantment name and current price. But it goes much further, providing an interactive interface where you can inspect trades, compare prices, browse possible Librarian trades, and view useful information about the villager assigned to a lectern.

Simply right-click an empty Librarian lectern to open Librarian Insight.

FEATURES

LECTERN TRADE DISPLAY

See a Librarian's enchanted book trade without repeatedly opening the trading menu.

The lectern can display:
• Full enchantment name and level
• Current emerald price
• Emerald and Book item icons
• Customizable text colors
• Optional price display

Long enchantment names automatically scale and wrap to remain readable on the lectern.

LIBRARIAN INFORMATION MENU

Right-click an empty lectern to open a complete information screen for its Librarian.

The interface uses actual Minecraft item icons, clickable trades, tooltips, scrolling, and a Minecraft-inspired design instead of large walls of text.

CURRENT LIBRARIAN

View the Librarian's known trades directly from their lectern.

See:
• Trade inputs and outputs
• Current prices
• Trade availability
• Vanilla minimum prices
• Enchanted book information

Librarian Insight can compare the villager's current price with the lowest natural vanilla price that trade could generate at, making it much easier to tell whether you've found a good roll.

POSSIBLE LIBRARIAN TRADES

Browse the trades a Librarian can potentially receive at each profession level:

• Novice
• Apprentice
• Journeyman
• Expert
• Master

Trades are presented using clickable Minecraft item icons.

Select an item to see more information about the trade, including its vanilla pricing.

Enchanted books have their own detailed browser for checking enchantments, levels, and minimum natural prices.

VILLAGER STATUS

In single-player, Librarian Insight can use Minecraft's integrated server to provide detailed information about the Librarian assigned to a lectern.

This includes useful information such as:

• Villager health
• Exact lectern ownership
• Current activity
• Restock status
• Restocks used and remaining
• Available and exhausted trades
• Profession level and XP
• Player reputation/standing
• Whether reputation is helping or hurting prices
• Hero of the Village information
• Detailed trade price adjustments

The Status screen is designed to explain these mechanics in simple player-friendly terms, with additional details available for players who want them.

EXACT LECTERN ASSOCIATION

In single-player, Librarian Insight can determine the actual Librarian assigned to a lectern using Minecraft's workstation data.

Once a Librarian has been associated with a lectern, their trade information remains displayed even when they walk away, sleep, or leave the immediate area.

In multiplayer environments where authoritative workstation information is unavailable, Librarian Insight gracefully falls back to its client-side association system.

PRICE INFORMATION

Librarian Insight can help explain what you're actually paying.

Depending on the available information, you can view:

• Current price
• Originally rolled/base price
• Lowest possible natural vanilla price
• Demand adjustments
• Reputation effects
• Hero of the Village effects
• Other or unknown adjustments when applicable

The mod does not alter these values — it only shows you the information.

VANILLA TRADING SCREEN INTEGRATION

Useful VLT pricing information is also available directly from the normal Librarian trading screen, allowing you to compare the current trade price with its natural vanilla minimum without leaving the normal interface.

CUSTOMIZATION

Librarian Insight includes:

• Light Mode
• Dark Mode
• Custom lectern text colors
• Optional lectern price display
• Persistent settings
• Client-side commands for quick configuration

Light Mode is the default and is designed to fit naturally alongside Minecraft's existing interfaces.

VANILLA-FRIENDLY

Librarian Insight is informational.

It does NOT:

• Reroll trades
• Modify trade RNG
• Change prices
• Force restocks
• Modify villager reputation
• Change villager AI
• Unlock hidden trades
• Give items
• Automate trading

The goal is to make vanilla Librarian mechanics easier to understand and interact with while leaving the actual gameplay mechanics untouched.

SINGLE-PLAYER FIRST

Librarian Insight is designed primarily for single-player worlds and is distributed as one normal Fabric mod.

Simply install the mod and play.

No separate server plugin or second download is required for its full single-player functionality.
