About this project

What does Better Claim add?

Better Claim

Your world. Your chunks. Your rules.

Protect your bases, manage your land and decide exactly what other players can do inside your territory.

Better Claim combines an interactive world map with detailed permissions, custom groups, configurable area rules and chunk loading. It offers players an intuitive way to manage their bases while giving administrators full control over limits, prices and server-wide policies.

Claim Directly From the Map

Open the Better Claim menu with U and manage your land through a detailed terrain map.

  • Select or drag across multiple chunks
  • Claim up to 64 chunks in one operation
  • Move the map while selecting chunks
  • Zoom and center the map
  • Clearly distinguish selected, claimed and loaded chunks
  • Claim multiple independent bases
  • Remove claims directly from the map
  • Manage areas remotely
  • Search and browse your protected areas
  • Separate map data for every world and dimension

Disconnected claims can form separate areas, allowing players to protect several bases without connecting them.

Areas Instead of Individual Chunks

Connected chunks automatically form one manageable area. Changes apply to the complete area, so every chunk does not have to be configured separately.

Every area can have its own:

  • Name
  • Members and managers
  • Custom groups
  • Personal player permissions
  • Role permissions
  • Area rules
  • Welcome message
  • Title and subtitle design
  • Chunk loaders

Detailed Permissions

Control exactly what visitors, members and other players may do inside your areas.

Permissions include:

  • Breaking and placing blocks
  • Using tools and buckets
  • Harvesting and planting crops
  • Fertilizing plants
  • Trampling farmland
  • Opening doors, trapdoors and fence gates
  • Using buttons, levers and pressure plates
  • Opening chests, barrels and shulker boxes
  • Using furnaces, hoppers and workstations
  • Using enchanting tables, anvils and beacons
  • Interacting with machines
  • Feeding, breeding and taming animals
  • Riding entities and vehicles
  • Trading with villagers
  • Using item frames and armor stands
  • Picking up items and experience
  • Dropping items
  • Using portals, ender pearls and chorus fruit
  • Entering an area
  • Attacking players or entities
  • Using automated fake players

Permissions are organized into categories and can be found quickly using the integrated search.

Roles, Groups and Personal Exceptions

Better Claim includes the standard roles:

  • Visitor
  • Member
  • Manager
  • Owner

Need more control? Create custom groups such as:

  • Builders
  • Farmers
  • Technicians
  • Friends
  • Guests

Players can be added directly to a group by name. Group membership is displayed clearly, and every group can receive its own set of permissions.

Individual player permissions can override normal role and group settings when a specific player needs special access.

Powerful Area Rules

Area rules control events that affect the complete protected area.

Available rules include:

  • PvP
  • Block damage from explosions
  • Entity damage from explosions
  • Player damage from explosions
  • Natural monster spawning
  • Natural animal spawning
  • Monster and animal spawners
  • Trial spawners
  • Mob griefing
  • Fire spread and block burning
  • Raids
  • Cross-border fluids
  • Cross-border pistons
  • Dispensers and hoppers
  • Entity fire damage
  • Mobs damaging players
  • Pressure plates and tripwire triggered by entities
  • Mob item pickup and drops
  • Mob and entity portal usage
  • Player-triggered lightning
  • Block-changing enchantments such as Frost Walker

Rules can be searched, filtered by category and restored to their configured defaults.

Administrator-Controlled Policies

Administrators decide which settings area owners are allowed to control.

Every supported permission and rule can use one of three policies:

  • Owner decides
  • Always allowed
  • Always denied

Mandatory policies cannot be bypassed through roles, groups or personal permissions. Settings unavailable to area owners are automatically hidden from their menus.

This makes Better Claim suitable for relaxed survival worlds, protected community servers and heavily customized multiplayer experiences.

Configurable Chunk Loaders

Keep selected claimed chunks active with the separate chunk loader system.

Administrators can configure:

  • Whether player chunk loaders are available
  • Maximum loaders per player
  • Free, experience or item-based activation
  • Required item and amount
  • Progressive prices
  • Server-owned chunk loaders
  • Unlimited server loader capacity
  • Pausing and resuming server loaders

When player chunk loading is disabled, the corresponding menu controls disappear automatically.

Flexible Claim and Loader Prices

Claims and chunk loaders can use separate payment modes:

  • Free
  • Experience points
  • Configurable items

Optional progressive pricing can increase the price of every additional claim or loader:

  • First purchase: base price
  • Second purchase: ×2
  • Third purchase: ×4
  • Fourth purchase: ×8

The complete price is calculated and validated before an operation begins.

Server-Owned Areas

Administrators can create free server-owned chunks for:

  • Spawn areas
  • Markets
  • Roads
  • Event zones
  • Public buildings
  • Server infrastructure

Server areas can be named and configured like normal areas while remaining independent of player limits and payment settings.

Combat and Claim Protection

Optional safety systems prevent players from abusing claims during combat.

Available protections include:

  • Combat lock after PvP
  • Delayed PvP rule changes
  • Optional claim reservation countdown
  • Reservation cancellation during combat
  • Cancellation after logging out
  • Cancellation after changing dimensions
  • Payment validation before reservation
  • Automatic refund after cancellation
  • Temporary protection against competing reservations

Claim reservations are disabled by default and can be enabled when desired.

Custom Welcome Messages

Give every area its own identity with a welcome display that appears when a player enters.

Customize:

  • Main title
  • Subtitle
  • Title color
  • Subtitle color
  • Display status
  • Included fonts
  • Compatible resource-pack fonts

The display appears once when entering an area and remains unobtrusive during normal gameplay.

Addon Support

Better Claim provides an expandable API for compatibility addons.

Addons can register new permissions and area rules that automatically appear inside the Better Claim interface with their own:

  • Names
  • Descriptions
  • Categories
  • English fallback text
  • Translations

The API also supports claim queries, permission checks, area rules, chunk loader controls, server policies and area transition events.

This allows other mods to integrate their features directly into Better Claim’s permission system.

Built for Multiplayer

Better Claim uses server-authoritative validation for claims, payments, permissions and chunk loaders.

Performance features include:

  • Asynchronous terrain map storage
  • Separate caches for each world
  • Batched map updates
  • Smoothed player and chunk processing
  • Optimized saving and loading
  • Ordered asynchronous data writes
  • Safe shutdown flushing
  • Atomic payment and claim validation

Default Configuration

Fresh installations begin with practical survival defaults:

  • 30 claimed chunks per player
  • Multiple separate bases allowed
  • Claims are free
  • 5 chunk loaders per player
  • Chunk loader activation costs 55 XP points
  • Claiming range of 10 chunks in every direction
  • Claim reservation disabled
  • Progressive pricing disabled
  • 30-second combat lock
  • 60-second PvP change delay
  • Unlimited server-owned chunk loaders
