About this project
What does Wolf Companion for TFC add?
TerraFirma Wolf Companion
TerraFirmaCraft can be a lonely place. This mod gives you a wolf companion to share the journey—from your first steps into the world to the home you build together.
Your wolf stays close, watches for trouble, and comes to your defense. You can give them a name, ask them to sit outside your shelter, or let them explore nearby while you work.
Out on the trail, your companion can scout ahead and growl when they notice danger. Wind affects what they can smell, giving you another reason to pay attention when that nose points into the breeze. They can point toward prey or, with opportunistic hunting enabled, chase nearby rabbits and wild birds and bring extra food back to your feet.
They have needs of their own, too. Your companion gets hungry and thirsty, hunts for food, and seeks fresh water. When fresh food is scarce, animal remains can provide a little emergency nourishment. You can also offer fresh meat or fish yourself. Routine needs respect sitting orders, but a critically hungry or thirsty wolf can take a short, safe self-care trip and return to its sitting spot. Danger and guarding an injured player still take priority.
Want to know how they’re doing? Sneak-right-click your wolf to see health, hunger, thirst, carried food, and a recent activity log. Hover over the bars for helpful explanations.
Your companion, your choices
The settings let you adjust hunting, scouting, scent, sounds, distances, and more. Choose the normal TFC wolf coat, Timber Gray, or Arctic White. Keep a collar, pick its color, or hide it for a more natural look. Right-click dyeing still works. You can turn the companion off safely and restore the same living wolf later.
You can also choose what happens if a companion dies: permanent loss, a new companion, or the same wolf returning. Optional stone memorials mark a loss with a personal inscription and a lasting light.
The aim is a useful, believable companion with a place in your survival story. They can be hurt, they sometimes need your help, and protecting you takes priority over an optional chase.
Getting started
Install the mod alongside TerraFirmaCraft and its required dependencies. A companion joins eligible players automatically; an existing save is supported. Right-click with an empty hand to sit or stand, offer fresh meat or fish to feed, and sneak-right-click to open the companion screen. Each player receives a starter whistle: right-click it to call your companion back to sit when safe. Carve a replacement from one bone and one knife in the 2×2 crafting grid. Find the settings through Minecraft’s Mods menu; optional Cloth Config gives them an organized tabbed layout.
Compatibility: Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.235 or newer, and TerraFirmaCraft 4.2.11 or newer within 4.2.x (tested with 4.2.11 and 4.2.12). Install it on the server and on each player’s client. This is a NeoForge mod; it does not require Fabric API, Cloth Config, or Mod Menu.
