About this project
What does Raffman’s Optimiser add?
Pick your FPS. The mod does the rest.
Tell Raffman's Optimiser "I want 180 FPS" – optionally "at render distance 10" – and it measures the real FPS on your PC and tunes Minecraft, your shader pack, Embeddium and Distant Horizons until you hit it. Smooth, not just high: by default the 1% lows have to fit as well.
Client-side only · Forge 1.20.1 · no server install needed
How it works
- Click ⚡ Optimiser in the top-left corner of the main menu (or in Options / Video Settings).
- Pick a target FPS – and a fixed render distance if you want one.
- Press 🧪 Start benchmark in the main menu, or ▶ Calibrate now inside a world.
- Done. The result is saved and applied to all your worlds.
Features
- Real measurements, no guessing – a binary search over a quality ladder (render distance, details, shader profile, shadows, DH distance & quality) finds the highest setup that holds your target, then a control run double-checks it.
- Fixed render distance – keep your favourite render distance and let everything else be tuned around it. You decide what matters more if both can't be reached.
- Smooth or Max FPS mode – Smooth (default) also checks the 1% lows, so you get stable FPS instead of 250 that dips to 90.
- Benchmark world – a temporary Large Biomes world with a fixed seed. The camera flies the same route over a heavy biome (jungle, dark forest, mangroves …) for every measurement, so chunk loading stutters are measured too. The world is deleted afterwards.
- Shader packs (Oculus) – uses your pack's own quality profiles plus separate shadow resolution/distance tuning. Your original shader options are backed up.
- Distant Horizons – LOD distance and quality are tuned through the DH API; your DH config file stays untouched. Set it to Off and the mod switches DH off and stops mentioning it.
- Embeddium – enables entity culling, fog occlusion, block face culling and visible-only animations.
- Live controller – if FPS drop somewhere (big village, elytra, farms), cheap settings are lowered for a moment and restored afterwards.
- Results & sharing – FPS graph of the control run, history, comparison with your first measurement and a copy button for Discord.
- System check – hardware overview, RAM recommendation and a check for useful performance mods.
- Undo everything – one click restores your graphics settings, shader options, Embeddium and DH values from before the mod.
- Fixes the known "Chunky is not loaded" crash when Distant Horizons 3.3.x and Chunky are installed and a new world is created.
Compatibility
| Mod | Status |
|---|---|
| Oculus | ✔ full support (recommended shader loader) |
| Distant Horizons | ✔ supported via its API |
| Embeddium / Rubidium | ✔ supported |
| OptiFine | experimental |
All of them are optional – the mod works on plain Forge too. Calibration only measures when you start it; saved results are loaded automatically when you join a world.
Commands
/optimiser shows the status. Also: target <fps> · rd <2-32|auto> · mode <smooth|max> · priority <fps|rd> · dh <chunks|auto|off> · calibrate · share · undo · help
Good to know
- Change your render distance through the Optimiser menu, not the vanilla slider – otherwise the next calibration simply sets it again.
- With Distant Horizons + shaders, give Minecraft at least 6–8 GB of RAM (the System tab calculates a recommendation).
- Config file:
config/raffmansoptimiser-client.toml
