About this project
What does Deliberate Dubiousness add?
🏡 Deliberate Dubiousness
A family mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge): house rules and pocket money, big animals to tame and ride, critters in glass tanks, industrial quarries, TNT that builds as well as blasts, crystal-clear glass and a home full of things that work.

Made for one family's world and shared in case yours likes it too. Needs GeckoLib. Patchouli adds the in-game guide book (craft a book with a ruby), which explains everything below. It's the heart of the Deliberate Dubiousness Pack, but works on its own.
🆕 New in 0.2.1
Riders sit on the saddle instead of inside the animal, elephants and mammoths have babies, and the big animals have real voices (bison recorded in Yellowstone National Park). Every TNT of a size reaches the same distance, so you can blow a hole and fill it right back up, and Water TNT now drops a sheet of real water. Two new mufflers quiet machines or animals, cows and bison graze, and plant-eaters eat from hay bales. See Updates below for everything.

👨👩👧 Family life
- Family Hearth. Mark your home and set the house rules: no hurting each other, keep inventory (player by player), explosions can't break blocks near the house, and no monsters spawn close by.
- Family Coins. Feed the Piggy Bank anything (rare things are worth more), collect a daily allowance, and spend coins at the Shopkeeper on building blocks, food, ores, treasures and enclosures.
- Challenge Board. Post chores and quests with item and coin rewards, then approve them when they're done.
- A starter kit. New players get a Hearth, a Challenge Board, a Piggy Bank and a Shopkeeper.
- Mailbox. Send things to each other's houses; the red flag goes up when mail is waiting.
- Games table with checkers, chess, tic-tac-toe and four-in-a-row, played together.
- Desk computer with notes, saved places, a drawing app, Snake, and a home control that sets the time and weather (parents only).
- Pets. Dogs and cats sleep in pet beds at night and eat from food bowls, and dogs fetch a thrown ball and bring it back.
- Living plushies. Use a Plush Heart on a placed plushie and it wakes up as your pet.
- The sky. A rainbow after the rain gives everyone outside Luck and Speed. Shooting stars cross clear nights, and making a wish earns a few coins.

🐘 Big animals
Bison, moose, elephants and mammoths live in their biomes. Bison, elephants and mammoths roam in herds that stand up for each other.
| Animal | Tame with | Breed with | Riders |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bison | carrots | wheat | 1 |
| Moose | apples | wheat | 1 |
| Elephant | sugar cane | hay bales | 3 |
| Mammoth | sweet berries | glow berries | 2 |
- Taming. Feed one its favourite food until hearts appear (each bite has about a one-in-three chance).
- Riding. Put a Large Animal Saddle (found in chests) on a tamed animal and climb on. Riders sit up on the saddle; the elephant's and mammoth's howdahs carry extra passengers.
- Saddlebags. Use a chest on a saddled animal for bags: 27 slots on bison and moose, 54 on elephants and mammoths. Sneak and right-click to open them. Shears take the bags or saddle back off.
- Guards. A tamed elephant or mammoth defends its owner.
- Grazing. Bison and cows crop grass like sheep, and every plant-eater (cows, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, llamas, camels, rabbits and our big animals) walks over to a hay bale nearby and eats from it, before grass. A meal heals a little, regrows a sheep's wool and helps babies grow. About one meal in nine finishes the bale.
- Real voices. Bison grunt and bellow, moose call, elephants trumpet and mammoths give deep African-elephant rumbles, all from real recordings.

🐠 Golems and critters
- Ruby, emerald and obsidian golems, built like iron golems. Emerald golems heal villagers and players; obsidian golems shrug off fire, lava and explosions.
- Enclosures. Catch small critters with a Critter Net and keep them in an aquarium, paludarium, terrarium or flight enclosure, from 2×2 up to 8×8 and 2 to 4 blocks tall. Each one is furnished with sand and kelp, a pond and a mossy bank, rocks and logs, or flowering trees. The critters wander, swim and flutter around inside. Fish, frogs, crabs, lizards, butterflies and bees from other mods move in too.
- 14 plushies to find in chests.

⛏️ Quarries
Iron, gold and diamond quarries dig a 5×5 all the way down. They take natural ground and ore only, never your builds, and give real drops. A drill rides the gantry down into the pit, sparks fly, the chimney smokes, and the screen glows green (digging), amber (no power) or red (full). Mined blocks drop out of a chute onto conveyor belts or into a hopper.
- Power: furnace fuel, or Forge Energy from any cable.
- Speed: Iron 1x, Gold 2x, Diamond 4x. Faster rigs use more power per block.
- Upgrades: Speed Upgrades (1.5x each) and Range Upgrades (one more block on every side each).
- Sound: a real quarry engine and rock drill, loud outdoors and quieter under a roof. A Machine Muffler silences them.

🔇 Mufflers
Two blocks for peace and quiet. Right-click one for more range, sneak-right-click for less: 8, 16, 24, 32 or 48 blocks.
- Machine Muffler (iron, wool and redstone): silences quarries, furnaces, pistons, dispensers and every machine from other mods.
- Animal Muffler (leather, wool and a hay bale): silences moos, clucks, grunts, buzzing and bats.
💥 TNT
Our own charges, each in plain, Mega and Giga. Every charge of a size reaches the same distance: 7, 16 or 28 blocks. Light them like TNT (flint and steel, fire, redstone or a dispenser). Safe homes still protect your house.
| Charge | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sand TNT | Fills the empty space around it with sand, piled up from the ground |
| Dirt TNT | Fills the empty space around it with dirt |
| Water TNT | Breaks nothing. Puts out fire, turns lava to obsidian, dowses campfires, then spreads a flat sheet of water that falls onto whatever is below (in the Nether it boils away) |
| Mega / Giga TNT | Blows out a perfect ball, 16 or 28 blocks out. Obsidian, bedrock and Reinforced Glass stay |
💡 TNT combo: blow a hole with Mega TNT, set a Mega Dirt TNT (or Sand) in the middle of it, and it fills the hole right back up. Giga works the same, 28 blocks out. Want a lake instead? Drop a Water TNT over the hole.

🪟 Clear glass
Clear Glass has no streaks and joins seamlessly into one big window. There are also panes, 16 clear colours, Frosted, Reinforced (blast-proof) and Glowing Glass.

⚔️ Gear and travel
- Ruby. Ore deep underground (Y -48 to 48). Tools and armour sit between diamond and netherite.
- Obsidian tools and armour. Slow, enormously durable and knockback-proof.
- Felling axes, wood to obsidian, bring down a whole tree from one log. Sneak to chop just one.
- Obsidian boat. Floats on lava and keeps its rider from burning.
🛋️ Home
A TV with eight animated channels, two-block desks with a computer, lamps, a fireplace that smokes, a washer and dryer, a shower, a working sink, a toilet you can sit on, a trash can, clocks that tell the world's time, and eight paintings. Furniture breaks quickly with any tool.

📝 Updates
FarFetchedFoReal is fixing things and adding more as our family plays. Here's what's new.
0.2.1
- Riders sit on top of the big animals instead of inside them, each on the saddle.
- Elephants and mammoths can have babies. They were too big to get close enough before.
- Real animal voices: bison grunt and bellow (recorded in Yellowstone National Park), moose call, elephants trumpet, and mammoths rumble like African elephants with a deeper trumpet.
- The moose's jaw stays on, its antlers tilt up, and the elephants' and mammoths' ears sit on their heads.
- Every TNT of a size reaches the same distance (7, 16 or 28 blocks). Mega and Giga TNT now blow out a perfect ball, so a Sand or Dirt TNT of the same size fills the hole right back up.
- Water TNT makes water: after putting out fires and cooling lava it spreads a flat sheet of water out as far as it reaches, and the sheet falls onto whatever is below. In the Nether the water boils away.
- Quarries sound like real machines: a quarry engine's hum and a rock drill biting into stone.
- Two new mufflers with a range you change by right-clicking (8 to 48 blocks): the Machine Muffler silences machines and the Animal Muffler silences animals. The Machine Muffler replaces the old Sound Muffler, and old ones turn into it.
- Cows and bison graze on grass like sheep, and plant-eaters eat from hay bales nearby, which they like better than grass.
- Paintings have proper icons, and every icon fits in its slot (the TV was too big).
0.2.0
- Our own TNT, with all-new art. Sand, Dirt and Water TNT, each in plain, Mega and Giga, plus Mega and Giga TNT.
- Furniture breaks quickly with any tool (axe, pickaxe, shovel or hoe).
- The desk computer sits properly on the desk, with the mouse no longer hanging off the edge.
- The rainbow is one smooth arc that hangs in the sky as you move, instead of two halves sliding apart.
- The old one-block enclosures are retired. Any you still have turn into the new sizes, critters and all.
- Every recipe double-checked in JEI.
0.1.9
- The in-game guide book is rewritten to match the mod, with new chapters for family life, critters and enclosures, and clear glass.
0.1.8
- Enclosures come from 2×2 up to 8×8, and 2, 3 or 4 blocks tall.
- Critters wander, swim and fly around their enclosure instead of sitting in the scenery, and the water no longer flickers.
