About this project
What does Surveyor Neoforge add?
Surveyor for NeoForge
Unofficial port. This is a NeoForge version of Surveyor Map Framework by Sisby folk. I am not part of their team and they have nothing to do with this page. All the credit for the mod is theirs. If something breaks in this version, report it here and not to them.
Surveyor remembers the world you explored. Map mods draw it.
It has no map screen on its own, so on its own you will see nothing. Install it together with a map mod that uses it, like Antique Atlas.

What it does
- Records the terrain, water and biomes of the chunks you see.
- Records structures after you find them.
- Keeps your waypoints and your friends' waypoints. It adds some by itself for nether portals, lodestones and the places where you died.
- Saves everything in your world, so you can switch map mods any time and lose nothing.
- Imports your waypoints from Xaero's Minimap.
On a server
- Everyone shares one map by default, or you can split players into groups.
- You see your friends on the map even when they are far away or in another dimension.
- Change computer or reinstall the game and the server sends your map back.
- Operators can place landmarks for everybody, like spawn or shops.
- Use a filled map on a cartography table, sneaking, to copy exploration in or out of a vanilla map.
Why does this exist?
Surveyor is a Fabric mod. On NeoForge you had to run it through Sinytra Connector and Fabric API. This version runs on NeoForge by itself, with neither of them. It keeps the same features, mod id, save format and network format, so the maps you already have and the addons that use Surveyor keep working.
Servers
On a public server, set globalSharing = false in config/surveyor.toml so players share maps in groups and not all together.
What is different from the original?
I did not redo the mod. I ported it and fixed what I ran into.
Fixes
- Saving can no longer lose or corrupt map data after a crash, a quick server stop or overlapping saves.
- Fixed crashes with named and enchanted weapons, unregistered biomes and structures, datapack dimensions and joining without Surveyor data.
- Friends no longer show as offline after every autosave.
- When you join or leave a group, the map drops the areas of your old group.
- Servers behind a proxy that share a seed no longer overwrite each other's maps.
Extras
- Spectators and invisible players no longer show on other players' maps.
- Lodestones and other structure POIs no longer cause stalls while the world generates.
- Config screen in the mod list.
- Lighter on the server: fewer objects per chunk and player positions only get sent when someone moves.
The full list is in the changelog. The wiki has the guides.
Things to know
- Coming from the original Surveyor? Your map data should load the same, because the save format is the same. In theory you just remove the other mod and put this one in. I have not tested it with every old world, so back up first. If it breaks, I am not responsible for lost maps.
- Do not install this next to the original Surveyor or its Connector build. They share the same mod id.
- Config files use the NeoForge format, so settings from the Fabric version do not carry over.
