About this project
What does Nitwit add?
Nitwit — Advanced Minecraft Optimization
Give your Minecraft world room to breathe.
Nitwit is an ambitious optimization mod for Fabric, designed to help Minecraft run more smoothly in entity-heavy environments. From crowded villages and iron farms to worlds filled with animals, hostile mobs, players, bots, and NPCs, Nitwit aims to reduce unnecessary performance overhead without compromising the gameplay experience.
Rather than simply removing entities, disabling AI, or sacrificing animations, Nitwit focuses on adaptive optimization, performance diagnostics, and smarter use of available system resources.
⚡ Features
Adaptive Entity Rendering — Dynamically adjusts the rendering distance of living entities in response to sustained frame-time pressure.
Performance Monitoring — Tracks frame times, client and server tick times, and available memory and garbage-collection metrics.
Entity-Focused Optimization — Designed to help investigate and address performance bottlenecks in worlds with large numbers of entities.
Preserved Mob Behavior — Aims to maintain normal AI, pathfinding, combat, trading, breeding, and other entity mechanics.
Animation-Friendly Design — Avoids intentionally disabling mob animations or simplifying their behavior for performance.
Optimization Mod Compatibility — Designed to complement existing mods such as Sodium, Lithium, ImmediatelyFast, FerriteCore, and EntityCulling rather than replace them.
Client and Server Performance Goals — Targets smoother rendering and more efficient entity processing, with further server-side optimization subject to testing.
🐄 Built for Entity-Heavy Worlds
Nitwit is designed with performance-intensive environments in mind, including:
Crowded villages and villager trading halls
Iron farms with multiple villagers and golems
Animal farms and breeding areas
Hostile mob farms
Multiplayer worlds with many players
Worlds using bots, NPCs, and custom entities
🎯 Our Philosophy
Optimize the workload, not the gameplay.
Nitwit aims to improve performance without relying on artificial entity limits, deliberately disabling AI, or sacrificing visual quality. Its long-term goal is to make demanding Minecraft environments feel smoother and more responsive while keeping the systems that make the game work intact.
🧪 Development Status
Nitwit is currently an experimental development project targeting Fabric 26.2. Its adaptive rendering and diagnostic features are under development, and compatibility, performance gains, and behavior preservation must be validated in actual gameplay.
Server-side optimization, multiplayer behavior, and compatibility across different mod combinations are ongoing goals rather than guaranteed results.
🔧 Compatibility
Nitwit is designed as a companion to existing optimization mods. Compatibility should be tested with the specific Minecraft version, loader, and mod combination in use.
Project goal: Smoother frames, healthier tick times, reduced unnecessary overhead, and a more responsive Minecraft experience — even in entity-heavy worlds.
