About this project

What does Signed & Sealed add?

Version 2.1.0 - Templates can now be edited after they are created: /seal passport template edit <id> or the "Edit" button in the admin panel (K → Templates). - Admin edits apply right away. If the author has no admin rights, an edit of an approved template goes to the admins for approval, and the old version stays in effect until then. - Documents already issued from a template show the updated design. - Includes the 2.0.1 fix (blank passports open in 3D inspect mode). Update here! Signed & Sealed

Paperwork for roleplay servers: city hall orders, stamped certificates, ID cards, passports that get checked at the border. Books and signs can't really do that, so this mod does.

You write a document, sign it with the mouse, stamp it, and the server remembers it. If someone edits the NBT or copies it from another world, the check will catch it.

Everything here is in-game only. Every page has an "IN-GAME DOCUMENT" mark on it that you can't remove, and the country passport templates are just stylised versions, not copies of real ones.

Runs on Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1. You need it on both the server and the client.

What's new in 2.0

ID cards, tickets and fines. The template editor now has four formats: a passport booklet, an ID card with a front and a back, a ticket with a tear-off stub, and a penalty notice. Nothing is tied to "police" or "city hall". A hospital, a guild, a school or a taxi company can design its own service ID: write the organisation name and heading, drag the fields wherever you like, and decorate the back. The admins approve the template, and then the organisation can print blank forms.

You can edit issued documents. Someone moved, or a rank changed? The organisation that issued the card presses "Change details". The registry updates, and old copies of that card stop passing the check.

Visa designer. A visa no longer has to be the default sticker. Lay it out from text, an emblem, bars and frames. Put {num}, {from}, {until} and similar placeholders where you want them, and the server fills them in when the visa is stamped.

Forgeries. Craft a forgery kit, hold a document in the other hand and right-click. You can make a copy with different details, or carve a fake stamp from an impression on a page. The fake looks exactly like the real thing. That's the point. But the registry check says FORGED, UV light shows nothing, and the security code doesn't match. Now border guards actually have a reason to check.

Printer and shredder. Two new blocks with proper 3D models. The printer makes copies, which are marked COPY and show up as "Copy" when checked, and it prints blank forms from your approved templates: one sheet of paper per form, one book per passport. The shredder destroys a document, passport or stamp. If it was yours, the document is also annulled in the registry.

Documents you can hold. Documents, passports and ID cards are now 3D in your hand and show their real pages. Press V to look closer: drag to turn it, scroll to zoom, press Space to open the passport or flip the card.

It feels more like a desk. Windows sit on a wooden desk, and pages cast a shadow. Paper slowly yellows and picks up folds as it ages. Tools have icons and hotkeys: U for UV light, L for the magnifier, S for stamps, V for verify. The check result slides out as a little paper slip with the verdict stamped on it. There are new sounds too: paper rustle, page turns, the thud of a stamp, a pen, the printer and the shredder.

What's in it

  • Documents. Orders, certificates, contracts, decrees. You get a live preview while you write. Once issued, a document is locked and recorded in the server's registry with an HMAC signature, so edited NBT, copies from other worlds and forgeries all fail the check.
  • Hand-drawn signatures. Choose a pen, a quill, a marker or a pencil, pick the ink colour and set the width.
  • Stamps. Design a seal, a border stamp or a visa. Use your own image from a file, drag it in, or paste a link. The admins approve each design. Then you pick the stamp up with the mouse and press it anywhere on the page.
  • Passports. Design the template yourself: the cover, the spread, the fields, the photo and the visa pages. 17 country-style presets are included. They are stylised, with no real coats of arms.
  • Security features. Every page has a security code, microtext you can read with the magnifier, a hologram that shimmers when you move the mouse, and UV marks that appear only on genuine documents.
  • Show and export. /seal show <player> lets another player see your document. You can also export to PNG or PDF.
  • Admin panel. Press K to approve stamps and templates, hand out blank forms and manage the registry. No commands needed.
  • Permissions. Everything goes through Forge permissions, so it works with LuckPerms.
  • Languages. English, German and Russian.

Notes

  • Back up data/signedsealed.dat. Without it, nothing issued earlier can be verified.
  • The client needs a font with Cyrillic. Windows and macOS have one; on Linux, install DejaVu or Liberation.
  • Documents from 1.x keep working after the update.
