About this project

What does Sorting Terminal add?

Sorting Terminal

Give your chests filters. Click the terminal. Your inventory sorts itself.

Sorting Terminal is a simple, vanilla-friendly storage helper: no cables, no networks, no new storage system. You keep your normal chests, barrels and shulker boxes and just tell each one what belongs in it. One right-click on the Sorting Terminal moves everything from your inventory into the right container nearby.

How it works

  1. Open a chest, barrel or shulker box and press the new Filter button (top right).
  2. Pick what belongs in it: click items in your inventory, search through all items, or choose a category like Ores, Logs, Plants or Mob Drops.
  3. Place a Sorting Terminal and right-click it. Done.

Features

  • Item and category filters – up to 54 entries per container. 24 categories (Ores, Raw Materials, Ingots, Gems, Logs, Planks, Saplings, Leaves, Flowers, Plants, Crops, Seeds, Food, Mob Drops, Stone, Dirt, Sand, Glass, Wool, Dyes, Tools & Weapons, Armor, Potions, Music Discs).
  • Works with other mods – categories use the common c: item tags, so modded ores, ingots, crops and more are included automatically.
  • Overflow containers – mark a container as overflow and it receives everything that found no other place (also when a filtered chest is full).
  • Tidy chests – after sorting, stacks are merged and the container is ordered by item, amount or category.
  • Your tools stay – the hotbar, armor and offhand are never sorted by default; the item in your hand always stays.
  • Terminal settings (sneak + right-click with an empty hand) – radius 8 to 32 blocks, sort hotbar on/off, sort order, and a list of every linked container with its filter.
  • Double chests share one filter, shulker boxes never end up inside other shulker boxes.
  • Feedback – particle trails to every filled container, a sound and a message like "Sorted 185 items into 4 containers".
  • Multiplayer safe – everything is checked on the server: locked chests and protected areas are respected.

Configuration

config/sortingterminal.json (server side):

  • maxRadius (32) – largest radius a terminal can be set to
  • defaultRadius (16) – radius of new terminals
  • maxContainers (64) – containers filled per click
  • cooldownTicks (10) – time between two sorts
  • sortHotbarByDefault (false)
  • particles (true)

Datapacks can extend the mod's own categories through the item tags sortingterminal:mob_drops, sortingterminal:plants and sortingterminal:stone.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.3, Fabric Loader, Fabric API
  • Needed on the client and the server.

FAQ

Does it replace Refined Storage or AE2?
No. It is meant for players who like normal chests and just want them sorted with one click.

Do I have to place the terminal next to the chests?
No, it reaches every filtered container within its radius (16 blocks by default, up to 32).

What happens to items no filter wants?
They stay in your inventory, unless you set up an overflow container.

Can I use it in a modpack?
Yes, feel free.
