About this project

What does Seed Savvy add?

Your carrot field stays a carrot field.

In vanilla, a farmer villager replants whatever seed happens to be first in its pocket. Harvest a row of carrots and it may come back as wheat; modded crops get ignored entirely. Seed Savvy teaches farmers to replant properly.

Features

  • Replants what was harvested — carrots stay carrots, potatoes stay potatoes, modded crops stay modded crops.
  • Uses a seed from the harvest — if the farmer has none of that seed yet, it takes one from the drops of the crop it just broke.
  • Empty plots match their neighbours — a gap in a potato row is filled with potatoes (when the farmer has them).
  • Modded seeds just work — any seed that places a crop block can be planted and is collected by farmers. Modded farmland in the c:villager_farmlands tag is supported.
  • Server-side only — install it on the server (or in singleplayer); players do not need it. Vanilla clients can join.
  • No dependencies, no world data saved — safe to add or remove at any time.

Configuration

config/seedsavvy.json (created on first start):

Option Default What it does
replantSameCrop true Replant the crop that was just harvested on that plot
useSeedFromHarvest true Take one seed from the harvest drops when the farmer has none
matchNeighborCrops true Fill empty plots with the most common neighbouring crop
plantModdedSeeds true Treat any seed that places a crop block as plantable
pickUpModdedSeeds true Let farmers collect modded seeds
harvestMemoryTicks 6000 How long a harvested plot remembers its crop (6000 = 5 min)

For modpack makers

  • Add seeds farmers should plant to the vanilla tag #minecraft:villager_plantable_seeds.
  • Exclude items with #seedsavvy:not_plantable.
  • Feel free to include Seed Savvy in any modpack.

Versions

Fabric (Fabric API not required) and NeoForge for Minecraft 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3. New Minecraft releases are supported as they come out.
