About this project
What does Control Mob Spawns add?

Ban mobs, change spawn rates and mob caps, and rewrite spawn rules from an in-game menu. No config files to edit, no ids to look up.
Features
Spawn rates: set each mob to a percentage of its natural spawn weight. 100 % is vanilla, and there is no upper limit.
Bans: ban a mob everywhere, in some dimensions, in some biomes or biome tags, or only when it has a given NBT value (for example baby zombies with IsBaby: 1b).
Spawn types: turn off one spawn reason for a mob: natural, spawner, breeding, structure, patrol, event, spawn egg, /summon… For example, disable Natural to stop a mob from spawning on its own without banning it.
NBT proportions: choose what share of new mobs gets a value. IsBaby: 1b at 20 % gives 20 % baby zombies and 80 % adults.
Spawn rules: replace a mob's own spawn conditions with yours: block light, sky light, height, blocks below, day or night, weather and moon phase. This lets a mob spawn where it normally can't.
Biome spawns: add any mob to the natural spawns of biomes or biome tags, with a weight and a group size.
Mob caps for each category (monsters, animals, ambient, water creatures…).
Despawning:
- instant and random despawn distances for each category;
- never despawn or force despawn per mob;
- an option that lets mobs which picked up an item despawn again, dropping the item.
Current mobs: see every mob in the world, most frequent first. Hover a row to remove all of that mob at once (handy for testing), ban it, or open its settings.
A menu built for it
- Tabs for General, Mobs, Biome spawns and Current mobs, each with a search box above the list.
- Mob icons, and banned mobs shown in red.
- Actions appear when you hover a row, so lists stay readable.
- Values that differ from vanilla stand out in yellow, with a reset button.
- An ⓘ next to each setting explains it.
- Autocompletion for NBT paths and values, read from the actual mobs.
- Changes stay pending until you press Save.
Global or per world
The global configuration applies to every world. Each world can override any value, and only the differences are stored in the world.
Singleplayer and servers
Works in singleplayer and on dedicated servers. Players with the required operator level (2 by default, configurable) can edit a server's configuration from their own client. The server checks every request. Players without the mod can still join.
Good to know
A spawn rate only decides which mobs fill the mob cap. To get more or fewer mobs overall, change the mob caps.
Requirements
