About this project

What does Lenient Death Continued add?

A vanilla-like alternative to graves. When you die, your armour, tools, weapons, food and anything on your safe list stay in your inventory; everything else drops as usual. Think of it as a filtered keepInventory: you keep what you need to get back on your feet, while the ores and loot you were carrying are still at risk. Death drops get a glowing outline so you can find them, can be set to despawn later (or never), can be made immune to fire, cacti and explosions, go back to the slot they came from when you pick them up, and are moved to the last block you stood on if you fell into the void.

This is a continuation of Lenient Death by JackFred (LGPL-3.0, about 9.7 million downloads, last released for 1.21.4), ported to Minecraft 26.3 with full credit; the original author is not involved. The port rewrote every hook for the 26.3 inventory and item code (the old ArmorItem and SwordItem classes are gone, so the type filter now uses the vanilla item tags and data components), moved all injections to the start and end of vanilla methods, replaced the JSON5 config with a documented properties file, and dropped the client-side pieces (per-viewer glow colours, Trinkets, EMI and Mod Menu integration). The original licence and a notice listing every change are inside the jar; the source is in the -sources.jar next to it.

  • Rules in order: custom data (Soulbound), enchantment IDs, always-dropped and always-preserved item and tag lists (lenientdeath:safe), item type (26 categories, each drop / preserve / ignore), luck-aware randomizer
  • yes / per_player / no for items and for experience (keep a percentage of your XP); /ld perPlayer for players who prefer vanilla deaths
  • /ld deaths list and /ld deaths restore <player> <index> [replace]: operators can give back any of the last five death inventories
  • /ld utilities test <item> tells you what would happen to an item; /ld config reload applies edits to config/lenientdeath/lenientdeath.properties
  • Death coordinates to the player, the console and/or other operators

Compatibility: Minecraft 26.3 with Fabric Loader 0.20.1 and Fabric API. Java 25. Server-side: runs on dedicated servers and on the integrated server in singleplayer; other players install nothing. Licence: LGPL-3.0-only, continued from Lenient Death by JackFred with the original licence, a notice of every change and the source jar included.
