📖 Why this mod?
If you play modpacks, render settings are always a compromise:
- You want the pretty stuff most of the time — max render distance, shaders on, Voxy for distant terrain;
- But the moment you go boss-fighting, recording, or just flying around, you have to manually turn off a dozen settings one by one: render distance, particles, clouds, entity shadows, shaders…
- And when you switch PCs or worlds, you have to redo it all over again.
This mod packs those settings into presets. One key press flips the whole render configuration.
✨ Features
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| One-click switching | Select a preset in the panel, hit Apply — the whole render setup changes instantly |
| 3 built-in presets | Low / Medium / High, ready out of the box |
| Save current settings | Capture your hand-tuned setup as a new preset and switch back to it anytime |
| Double-click to rename | Call your presets whatever you like |
| Delete presets | Remove the ones you don't need (at least one is kept) |
| Three ways to open | Title-screen button / hotkey F10 / cycle with F11 |
| Shader integration | High preset can enable OptiFine shaders with a specific shader pack |
| Voxy integration | High preset can enable Voxy distant rendering |
💡 The panel uses a select-then-apply flow: clicking a preset only highlights it and never changes your settings immediately — no more accidental misclicks.

The file is generated on first launch. Every field is optional — fields you omit are left untouched when the preset is applied, so you only need to list the settings you actually want to change.

- Want more presets? Just add another key — the panel lists it automatically.
- After editing, press Reload presets file in the panel to hot-reload (no game restart needed).
- ⚠️ The file must be UTF-8 encoded, otherwise non-ASCII names will be garbled (VS Code / Notepad++ recommended).
🌅 Shaders
On Forge 1.20.1, shaders are handled by OptiFine + OptiFabric. The mod switches them by writing config/optifine/shaderscfg.properties:
properties
Shaders=true
ShaderPack=ComplementaryShaders
Shaders=false→ shaders offShaders=true+ShaderPack=<pack name>→ shaders on with the given packShaders=truewithoutpack→ just toggles shaders on, keeping your current pack
⚠️ OptiFine reads this file on startup / world load, so a change usually takes effect after re-entering the world (or pressing Done in the shader settings screen). This is an OptiFine limitation.
🌄 Voxy
The Forge port of Voxy (Dousha66/voxy-forge-1.20.1, modid voxy) reads config/voxy-config.json on client startup.
The High preset writes:
json
{
"enabled": true,
"enableRendering": true,
"sectionRenderDistance": 32,
"serviceThreads": 4,
"subdivisionSize": 64
}
⚠️ Voxy only reads its config at startup, so a client restart is required. If Voxy isn't installed, writing the file is harmless and the mod won't error.
⚡ When do changes apply?
Instant (no restart) — render distance, simulation distance, graphics mode, clouds, particles, ambient occlusion, entity shadows, chunk update priority, biome blend, mipmap levels, FPS limit, VSync, entity distance scaling, GUI scale, view bobbing, high contrast, FOV, gamma.
Render distance additionally calls
ClientChunkCache.updateViewRadius()in-game, so the current world's chunk cache resizes immediately — no need to rejoin.
Requires restart / re-entering the world — shaders (OptiFine), Voxy.

| Optional | OptiFine + OptiFabric (shaders), voxy-forge (distant rendering) |
❓ FAQ
Q: Pressing F10 does nothing. A: The key is probably taken by another mod. Go to Options → Controls → Key Binds, search for "Config Presets" and bind an unused key.
Q: Preset names show up as garbled text / question marks. A: presets.json isn't UTF-8. Re-save it as UTF-8 in your editor, or simply delete the file and let the mod regenerate it.
Q: I applied High but shaders didn't turn on. A: You need to re-enter the world so OptiFine reloads shaders. Also make sure OptiFine + OptiFabric are installed and the shader pack is in shaderpacks/.
Q: Will this replace my Realms button? A: No. The button is added as a separate entry below the vanilla menu column; no vanilla button is hidden or replaced.
Q: Can I use this on servers? A: Yes. It's client-side only, so servers don't need it. You'll only see the usual "client has mods that are missing on server" notice, which doesn't affect gameplay.
