Immersive Technology

** If you are using SpongeForge and something doesn't work report it to them ** ** VERSIONS >= 1.12.2-1.9.95 are NOT backcompatible with Immersive Tech (Original) **

An Immersive Engineering addon built around real thermal power generation. Instead of a single "generator" block, power comes from a chain you design and balance yourself: raise heat, boil water into steam, expand that steam across a turbine, condense the exhaust, and feed the water back around. The addon implements the Rankine cycle for steam and the Brayton cycle for gas, along with solar thermal generation and a set of chemical and metallurgical processes to support them.

Machines care about what you feed them. Distilled water works better than plain water, exhaust steam is worth recovering rather than voiding, turbines take time to spin up and coast back down, and solar output depends on the weather, the time of day, and how many reflectors you have aimed at the tower.

Making steam

  • Distiller - turns ordinary water into Distilled Water, which carries more heat and keeps your loop clean.
  • Boiler - burns fuel to boil water into steam. Distilled water is more efficient. On 1.20.1 the boiler is split into a Boiler Tank plus a Solid Fuel Burner or Liquid Fuel Burner, so you can run it on coal-type fuels, on Biodiesel and other combustible liquids, or on both.
  • Solar Reflector - aims sunlight at a Solar Tower. More reflectors mean more heat.
  • Solar Tower - boils water using nothing but reflected sunlight. Needs at least one reflector, and towers have to be spaced apart from each other.
  • Heat Exchanger - moves heat between two fluid loops, for preheating feedwater or recovering it from something hot on its way out.

Turning steam into power

  • Steam Turbine - a large machine that expands steam into mechanical rotation. It has real inertia: it takes a while to reach speed and keeps turning after the steam stops.
  • Gas Turbine - burns combustible fuels directly for rotation. Needs an electric starter to get it moving and an igniter to light the fuel, and it will stall if you overfeed the starter.
  • High Pressure Steam Turbine (1.12.2 opt in) - a higher tier turbine running on high pressure steam.
  • Alternator - attach it to a turbine's mechanical output and it produces IF. Output scales with speed and torque, so an underfed turbine produces very little.

Closing the loop

  • Cooling Tower - condenses exhaust steam back into water or distilled water so it can go around again.
  • Radiator - sheds heat from a fluid. Placement matters: biome temperature and humidity affect how well it performs.

Processing

  • Advanced Coke Oven - a faster, larger coke oven. Add Baseheaters to speed it up at the cost of power.
  • Melting Crucible - an electrically heated crucible that holds a working temperature and melts materials into fluids.
  • Solar Melting Crucible - the same idea driven by a reflector field instead of power.
  • Electrolytic Crucible Battery - electrolysis for splitting fluids into their products.

Storage and fluid handling

  • Steel Fluid Tank - a multiblock tank considerably larger than IE's iron tank. Fluid it actively pushes out is pressurized, which moves faster through pipes.
  • Open Metal Barrel - collects rainwater, twice as fast during a thunderstorm. It evaporates in hot biomes and in the Nether. Input from the top or by hand with a bucket, output from the bottom only.
  • Steel Metal Barrel - a larger sealed barrel with a faster transfer rate.
  • Fluid Valve, Load Controller and Stack Limiter - throttle and gate fluid, power and item flow through a line.

Utility

  • Redstone Timer - emits a short pulse on an adjustable delay, from 0.5 to 30 seconds in half second steps, and can be halted with redstone.
  • Trash Cans for items, fluids and energy, so overstocked conveyors and full tanks stop backing up your build.
  • Creative Crate and, on 1.20.1, a Creative Heater and Creative Rotor for testing setups without building the whole chain first.
  • Creative Fluid Barrel - unlimited fluid. Fill it by hand or by pipe, output on all sides, Shift+Click with an empty hand to clear it or use a bucket to swap fluids.

Recipes and configuration

Nearly every rate, capacity and multiplier in the mod is exposed in the config, so packs can retune the entire power curve without touching recipes.

  • 1.12.2 - full CraftTweaker support for every machine.
  • 1.20.1 - all machine recipes are JSON, so packs can add, change or remove them from a datapack.

JEI and The One Probe integration are included on both, with Jade support on 1.20.1.

Versions

1.12.2 and 1.20.1 are the released versions. A 1.21.1 port is in development and has not been released yet.
