WindLink
Adds a realistic wind engine that is terrain aware for shaders to respond to.
Quick answer
Which WindLink release should I use?
WindLink 1.1.21+mc1.21.1-neoforge targets 1.21.1 with NeoForge. It must be installed on the client. Do not install it on the dedicated server. All 1 required mods have matching files.
Where it goes
Is WindLink required on the client, server, or both?
It must be installed on the client. Do not install it on the dedicated server.
This file is marked client-only.
What else does WindLink 1.1.21+mc1.21.1-neoforge need?
1.1.21+mc1.21.1-neoforge. Change the file and its required mods may change too.
Install PlunderEngine first. We found matching files for this game-version and loader setup.
We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.
Before you install it
Add WindLink without breaking your instance.

About this project
What does WindLink add?
WindLink
A real, shared wind that everything breathes.
Client-side only. Safe on vanilla servers. Works with no shader pack installed, but doesn't live up to anything without one.
Depends on PlunderEngine.
Compatible Shaders:
Euphoria Patches 1.10.0+
Compatible Mods
These are mods that can function with WindLink's wind field.
| Mod | What WindLink does with it |
|---|---|
| Better Smoke | Their smoke follows our wind. |
| Physics Mod | Cloth movement, debris, rain and snow all take our field instead of their own when installed. |
| Grassier Grass | Their blade wind is taken over with our wind. Unsupported by dev, may break on their update. |
| Fancy World Animations | Lanterns and chains swing on our wind. Support is awaiting their update. Tested on the dev build. |
| Serene Seasons | Drives our seasons when installed, more leaves fall during the fall and autumn season. |
| Particle Rain | Our wind drives their rain. |
Two mods installed and two disagreeing winds on screen is a bug a player cannot diagnose. That is
the whole reason these exist: one wind, one direction, whoever is drawing it.
Wind
WindLink creates a real and terrain aware wind field that everything responds to. No more side to side canned wind animations with your favorite shaders. Everything flows together.
- Building gusts that come and go naturally instead of a constant breeze
- Terrain flow: slowed behind a hill, quicker over a crest, funnelled down through valleys
- Presets from calm to storm, or auto (natural wind)
- Wind character, natural or cinematic
- Turbulence, swirl and wave size as separate dials
- Wind sheltering, your builds interact with the wind in real time
- Blown debris from leaves and grass flecks that ride the wind and deflect off walls
- Trees move as one, so a canopy sways together
- Falling leaves, smoke, flames, embers and campfire smoke all take the same wind
Seasons
- Foliage color follows the year (default: off)
- Days per season, or race through a whole year in seconds to see it move
- Forceable season overrides
Dust
- Sand grains lifted off loose ground when the wind is up
- Wind thresholds, spawn rate, radius and how high it lofts
Heat
- Heat field over fire and lava
Water
- Every body of water measured and identify puddle, pond, lake, river, small sea, ocean, deep ocean
- Tuning for range, sea height, depth and what counts as a river
- Shore distance data
On-screen
- Wind compass showing heading and strength, unintrusive
- Wind lines, a debug overlay drawing the field itself: shape, spacing, reach, length, ground arrows, and whether they show through terrain
