About this project

What does MuddyWaters add?

Since the introduction of Mud blocks, it seemed strange to have dirt under water. Rather than change the world gen, Muddy Waters converts dirt blocks to Mud when touched by a water block for long enough.

With this mod, over time, dirt blocks under or next to a water source or flowing water will slowly convert to mud. Dirt blocks adjacent to mud convert a little faster, giving the appearance of spreading patches as the water seeps into the dirt - more organic than an entire waterlogged area flipping at once.

Shoreline grass blocks convert to biome-mapped 'shorline' blocks (coarse dirt, cobble, podzal) for added detail.

Features

  • Source water converts dirt to mud after a 5 min (6000 tick) delay.
  • Flowing water takes longer to convert dirt beneath it.
  • Dirt blocks adjacent to mud convert quicker, providing a more natural appearance.
  • Shoreline grass blocks convert into coarse dirt, mapped per-biome, with a configurable shore depth, water-source threshold and target block.
  • Toggleable setting to protect Player-placed blocks from conversion - place dirt or mud yourself and it stays put.
  • Only works in generated, loaded chunks. No changes to world generation.
  • (NEW)Fully server-authoritative - the server needs the mod installed for conversion to happen, regardless of what clients are running. Optional player-proximity gating stops chunk-loaders from triggering conversion with nobody around.
  • Configurable via a JSON config file, in-game via Mod Menu.
  • Server config server via /muddywaters config get|set|list or config file Config file = config/muddywaters.json
  • Built to be lightweight and self contained, with minimal possible impact on any other mods.
