About this project
What does Spawn Spires add?

Nighttime in Minecraft is flawed. Sleeping through the night is a tedious dead man's switch that must be flipped at the end of each day, or the player is at risk of being attacked and having their builds blown up by creepers.
Spawn-proofing is a partial solution, but options are very limited and require lighting or covering surfaces in blocks that mobs cannot spawn on, which may be undesirable, and phantoms will force the player to sleep regardless. This also results in night being practically nonexistent on most servers. The game actively punishes you for engaging with nighttime as a mechanic, and Spawn Spires addresses these problems.
Spawn Spires' solution
The mod divides the world into large, invisible regions, and each region contains a Spire structure that governs the hostile mob spawning within that region. If the player climbs a Spire, they can disable the Spire Heart at the top, which will stop hostile mob spawning in the Spire's region. (mob spawns below Y=0 are unaffected, hostile mobs will still spawn in deep caves.)

(This map does not appear in-game, it's a graphic that represents the regions and the mechanic)
Sleeping in beds will no longer skip the night, and will instead slowly heal the player. You must survive through the night until you conquer the Spire in your region. In addition, insomnia is disabled and phantoms will instead spawn around active Spires, and will not burn during daytime. If the player wants to re-enable mob spawning within a region, they can simply turn the Spire Heart back on.
Mod Compatibility
Spawning compat:
As of mod version 1.0.5, Spawn Spires works with modded monsters that spawn in darkness! if a Spire is disabled, dark-spawning monsters from any mod will no longer spawn in its region.
World generation compat:
In order to be able to generate a Spire anywhere in the overworld, this mod needs biome tags that, combined, list every biome. This means that any new modded biomes need to be explicitly listed by Spawn Spires (this also lets this mod know which Spire variant to generate per-biome).
Here are the overworld biome mods that this mod is compatible with:
- No Man's Land
- Terralith
- Biomes O' Plenty
- Regions Unexplored
- Oh The Biomes We've Gone
- Atmospheric
- Spawn
- Alex's Caves (Unofficial Port, but it should work if the original mod updates)
- Environmental
- [Let's Do] BloomingNature
- Clifftree
- Cliffbranch
- Good Ending
- Mystic's Biomes
- Neapolitan
- Nature's Spirit
- Windswept
- William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld
If this mod tries to place a Spire in any biome from a mod not on this list, it will simply not generate. In order to affect monster spawning for the region in which the Spire failed to generate in, you will have to place your own Spire Heart via commands or creative mode.
Can I use this on a world that was created before I installed Spawn Spires?
If you want to play this mod in survival, and you want everything to work as intended, you should make a new world instead of using a world you created before installing it.
Your game won't crash or break horribly if you visit an existing world, but there will be a survival gameplay issue: You won't be able to affect mob spawning in a region if its Spire's chunk was already generated (there will be no Spire there if you already generated the chunk without the mod).
As of mod version 1.0.4, you can use the locatespire command to find where the nearest Spire should have generated. If the Spire is missing, and you still want to control mob spawns in the region, you'll have to use cheats or creative to place your own Spire Heart there.
(As with any world generation or structure mod, you should back up your world before loading it with this mod.)
