About this project
What does Immersive Wood add?
Version note: Immersive Wood 2.0.0+ is for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge) and is where active development is happening going forward. The 1.20.1 (Forge) version is still available but is on the older feature set. It does not have features such as Knapping and the new JSON-based custom chopping recipe system.
Overhauls early-game progression by removing 'magic' crafting. Requires players to manually process logs on Chopping Blocks, physically ignite unlit campfires with a Fire Starter, and utilize primitive Flint tools.
Important note: vanilla wooden and stone tools are still there, but if you are a modpack developer, I highly recommend customizing the wooden and stone tool tiers; perhaps removing their recipes to create more grounded and involved early game content.
✨ Features
- Manual Wood Processing: Crafting table recipes for planks are disabled. You must place logs on a Chopping Block and hew them with an axe.

- Unlit Campfires: Campfires are placed unlit by default. You cannot just plop down instant safety!

- Primitive Fire Starter: A new early-game tool crafted from sticks. Hold right-click to rub them together and ignite your fires.

- Flint Toolset: A complete set of Flint tools (Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel, Hoe, Sword).
📖 Quick Guide
Scavenge flint from gravel and knap two flints together to make a Flint Axe Head. Pair the Axe Head with a stick (snap one out of a sapling) to assemble your first Flint Axe. Stack two matching logs into a Chopping Block and start swinging that axe at logs to turn them into planks.
🔧 Adding your own Chopping Block recipes (only available in +1.21)
You can add your own input/output pair with a plain JSON file shown below using KubeJS. Don't forget to drop the JSON file under the kubejs/data//recipe/
{
"type": "immersivewood:chopping",
"ingredient": {
"tag": "minecraft:planks"
},
"result": {
"id": "minecraft:stick",
"count": 4
}
}
⚙️ Highly Configurable
Immersive Wood comes with a config file letting you tune how strict the wood-chopping experience is. You can adjust how many planks a Chopping Block gives per log, disable the vanilla shortcut for crafting planks directly from logs, and/or make breaking logs by hand (without an axe) much slower. Find it in your config folder as immersivewood-common.toml after first launch.
📦 Modpacks & Permissions
You are free to use Immersive Wood in any modpack! The only condition is that the mod files must be downloaded via CurseForge or Modrinth.
