About this project
What does URL Radio (YT) add?
VS Radio
VS Radio adds a placeable radio block that plays real music out loud in the world. Place it down, right click to open the controls, paste a link, and it plays at that spot with proper 3D sound that gets quieter as you walk away. It is built to feel like something that belongs in the world, a bit of salvage you would dig up in a ruin, rather than a shiny modern gadget dropped into the game.
What it can play
You can play from YouTube, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, direct mp3 and ogg links, and live internet radio stations including Radio Garden, Icecast and Shoutcast streams. Paste a normal video or song link and it downloads and plays that track. Paste a live station and it streams it continuously like a real radio. It even recognises a live stream on its own so you just paste and play.
Sound that fits the world
The audio is fully positional. It is loudest at the radio and fades with distance, and it now stays fuller further out so it carries nicely across a shop or a base. Walls matter too. The sound fills a room, leaks out through open doorways and windows, and goes quiet if you seal it off behind solid walls, so a radio inside your house does not blast across the whole map. Closed doors and glass muffle it rather than cutting it off completely.
Playlists and looping
You can loop a single song, or turn on loop through all downloaded songs to play everything you have downloaded one after another and start over at the end, giving you your own endless station. Name your songs so nearby players see the track on the now playing display.
Made for servers
VS Radio comes with a full admin panel for server owners, opened with the command /radioadmin and locked to players with admin permission. From there you can turn all radio playback on or off, allow or block live streams, set a max range and max volume that every radio must respect, and build a whitelist of who is allowed to use radios. You can also set allowed or blocked website lists to control exactly where music can come from. Every limit is enforced on the server so it cannot be bypassed by editing client files, and there is a built in Wiki tab that explains each option. Players who are not allowed to play something get a clear message telling them why.
For everyone else there is a personal mute all radios option in the Settings tab that silences every radio for you alone, without affecting anyone else.
How it works
Each player resolves and plays the audio locally, and only the short link is ever sent over the network, never the audio itself. The tools it needs are fetched automatically the first time you play something, so there is nothing to install by hand. If YouTube ever asks you to confirm you are not a bot, there is a browser cookies option in the Settings tab that fixes it.
Requirements and notes
Built for Vintage Story 1.22 and needs to be installed on both the server and every client that wants to hear the music. This is meant for personal and shop use, please do not use it to redistribute copyrighted audio.
