A compact bulk-storage system designed to reduce server stress caused by excessive numbers of storage chests and large quantities of items.

Overview

Temporal Storage was created with one simple goal: provide a more efficient way to store large quantities of items without needing hundreds of individual chests.

On heavily populated Vintage Story servers, players often build enormous storage rooms filled with chests. These storage systems can contain thousands of individual item stacks spread across hundreds of containers.

Temporal Storage offers an alternative by combining large quantities of matching items into individual storage entries.

Instead of needing dozens of chests to store thousands of stones, dirt blocks, ores, or other materials, players can store them together inside a single Temporal Storage chest.

The goal is to make bulk storage easier for players while potentially reducing storage-related server overhead.

Bulk Item Storage

• Store up to 100 unique item types in each Temporal Storage chest.

• Store large quantities of matching items under a single entry.

• Organize materials without filling hundreds of traditional inventory slots.

Custom Storage Interface

• Dedicated storage GUI instead of a traditional chest inventory.

• View stored items and their quantities.

• Browse stored items using pagination.

• Deposit items directly from your selected hotbar slot.

• Deposit matching items from your inventory.

• Enter a custom withdrawal quantity to take exactly what you need.

Storage Protection

• Chests containing items cannot be broken through normal mining.

• Empty chests can be broken and relocated.

• Protection against accidental destruction helps prevent the loss of stored materials.

Custom Chest

• Unique chest model featuring temporal gear details.

• Custom textures.

• Craftable using a regular chest and four temporal gears.

Place a regular chest in the center of the crafting grid, with one temporal gear above, below, left, and right.

Server Performance

Reducing storage-related server stress is the primary motivation behind Temporal Storage.

Traditional storage systems require many individual containers, each with its own inventory slots and stored data.

Temporal Storage approaches this differently by keeping matching items grouped together and allowing players to replace large storage rooms with fewer storage blocks.

This design aims to provide several potential benefits:

• Fewer physical storage containers in the world.

• Less inventory-slot overhead for large quantities of identical items.

• More compact storage rooms.

• Reduced need for extensive chest networks.

• Easier management of bulk resources.

The system does not require players to open hundreds of individual chests to find and retrieve their materials.

Performance Disclaimer: Temporal Storage is designed with server efficiency in mind, but actual performance improvements have not yet been benchmarked. Results may vary depending on server configuration, item quantities, player activity, and installed mods.
