About this project

What does Boric Alchemy add?

What is alchemy? That depends on the time, date and the semantic scope you have in mind.
To me, however, alchemy is an inextinguishable tar that seeps between the cracks of everywhere it shouldn't be.
The kitchen, the basement, the roof, the axe, the soil.

Boric Alchemy is my way of bridging alchemical gaps in the parkour course that is Vintage Story.
Why the name? Because boric acid. It burns green. It's made from reacting borax with strong acid - all of these things are in the game, the game supports coloured lights - it was all there, just not assembled. That's what i'm going for.

  • Russian translations kindly provided by Dimeymer!

  • Fractional Distiller Model by SkymareAssault!

Any fractional distillers crafted before 2.7.8 are being phased out!
In version 3.0.0 they will be fully removed (so you have a lot of time ^^)

However, they will not appear in the creative tab, or the handboot.
.
The old distillers will seamelly become the new ones when you harvest your yield, or remove a beaker from an empty distiller
.
.The new fractional distillers can utilize any colour beaker :D

About the plushies...

They're not going anywhere - I made them for a little server I'm playing on with some friends, they're just cute little decor items - they are not cannon to the mod, per se - but I like them, and I want them on the server alongside this mod. That is all, peace <3

By the way...

Some stuff in the mod doesn't feel right just yet - like how washing the cooking pot doesn't take water - I'm working on it. Working on the juice of the mod, if you will. I haven't forgotten about it, I'm just not that competent a modder yet ;p

The alchemist aesthetic and vibe in this mod is based closely on the alchemists in 'Seeking Plagues'

Reguarding the involvement of AI

AI?!

No AI is used to create or modify textures, models, or any JSON code (since the earliest versions back when I didn't know how "ucontents" worked) -. I'm quite confident in my general vintage story JSON skills now tho :3
I write every single item name, item description - the handbook is all me (hence the typos)
Even the sound - not sounds because there's just one - is from a public domain sound thingie.

AI is used to patch up my C#, because I suck at C# and I'm terrified of breaking your worlds.
I have 9.5k hours of GML (in which I attempted to re-make terraria but terrible) under my belt, but I'm still slowly learning C# and learning the whole vintage story modding environment.
I never programmed outside of GML and some WoW repack tweaks - so it is VERY overwhelming.

How does my C# workflow look? I copy and paste a working class if at all possible, strip it down and try to do the thing I want to do. It either works (yay) or I get an error that I can't fix, I go to an LLM and troubleshoot until I get something that works.

90% of the time I make sure to understand the entirety of how the code works so that I can better tweak it and develop it in a modular fashion.
But for some stuff that just refused to work, I've been guilty of just ping-pong-ing crash log with an AI for an hours plus until neither of us are fully there - and they literally hit me with them "Deleting this class would make the errors go away" - until it finally works, and a lot of tightly clenched testing later I just lock the code away like pandoras box that I occasionally look at and go: "why would an 'OnCollide~' function be a void? Probably because it does stuff, and is not like - the detectly thingie - huh, anyway."

TLDR: I use AI to help me get my broken C# classes working, while my C# skills improve
