Config
Don't treat the stats or variants as a must, you can choose which stick fit your playthrough and what stats they should have. Each stick has an individual config file so you can make it yours!
- Walking speed, hunger rate values and auto step feature are fully configurable inside VintagestoryData\ModConfig, in the folder named WalkingSticks. Each stick has an individual config file. All you need to do is open the desired file with notepad.
- To change walking speed or hunger rate, just edit the value (for example, "WalkingSpeed": 5.0 → "WalkingSpeed": 15.0) and save.
- To disable auto-step, edit the config and change the value from true to false.
- To disable block ignition while using the jonas ash-spitter, edit the config and change "BlockIgnition" from true to false
- To disable certain walking sticks, edit the config and change "HideFromCreativeInventory": from false to true
- (This configuration is server-authoritative, meaning all clients connected to the server receive these configuration values directly from it, this is to prevent cheating!)
Roadmap
If the variant is no longer on the roadmap its likely that I tried it, was dissatisfied with the resaults or could not make it work. Additionally variant being on the roadmap does not mean it will for sure be added.
- Walking stick variants:
- Shepherd's leap stick - an option that would help with traversing rugged terrain.
- Bindle stick - a variant with a linen sack attach at the end, adding the ability to store couple items in the sack.
- Temporal doctor's walking stick - A stick that reveals another player’s health and temporal stability without direct contact, reducing the risk of falling ill yourself!
- Tailor's walking stick - a variant with a sewing kit on a stick for those repairs on the long walk ahead (suggested by Sunseer)
- Whangee walking stick - a variant made out of bamboo (suggested by Sunseer)
- Miner's walking stick - a variant made for miners with omni attachable properties (ground, walls, celling) as well with miner's bag for some additional slots. (suggested by GarnetAnimations)
- Blow pipe walking stick - a walking stick and a blow pipe in one! (suggested by 7ThePrimagen)
- Grappling hook walking stick - a walking stick with a grappling hook that would allow to rappel down safely, or be shot to pull yourself up to a higher point! (suggested by Carra384))
- Crude walking stick - simpler option that gives the vibe of picking up a random stick you found along the way, crafted with less resourses, gives less benefits. Added in The Wayfarer Update
- Reinforced walking stick - stronger, upgraded version of the stick, reinforced with metal rod, hoops and some leather for extra boink power. Added in The Wayfarer Update
- Elk attachment - ability to attach walking stick to the elk. Added in The Wayfarer Update
- Lantern attachment - option to attach lantern into a baseline variant of the stick. Added in The Wayfarer Update

Compatibility
Known issues
- (0) Critical Issues:
- (0) Moderate Issues:
- Snowshoes mod - may cause stattering when entering the snow (reported by 2 user) Solved In order to fix this issue, enter %appdata% go to VintagestoryData\ModConfig and open the file named Snowshoes with Notepad. Inside, change the radiusCheckFrequency value from 50 to 200 and save. (200 worked for me, but if you still experience stuttering, try 250, 300, and so on) Thanks to LivCi for the suggestion!
- (0) Minor Issues:
- Salty's Manual: Tool Crafting - not compatible with 2.0.0 version of the manual crafting, the recipes disapear from the handbook Solved tool recipes are disabled by default, enable the recipes again in the manual tool configs to get the recipes back.
- Off-hand buffs - when you leave and re-enter the world, the walking stick off-hand buffs will glitch and wont apply the correct bonus. Solved to fix this, simply quit and restart the game. (bit annoying i know, will try to fix it in the future)
Important notes
- Always back up your world saves before installing any mods. As a new modder, I’m still learning and improving my skills. While I test each mod before uploading, there’s always a chance of human error. With that being said, I won’t take responsibility for any issues that may affect your save or character, so please make sure to back up your files.
- Any mod that overrides default walk animation will probably have some effect on the custom walk animation that the mod has.
- Stick’s buffs only apply when walking, that’s intentional by design, I don't want to make the game too easy!
- It is recommended to play with immersive first person mode turned off, as my animations are based on the standard view.
