Quick answer
Which Wilderlands Geology release should I use?
Wilderlands Geology 1.0.2 targets 1.22.0-pre.1, 1.22.0-pre.2, 1.22.0-pre.3. It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional. No extra mods listed for this file.
Where it goes
Is Wilderlands Geology required on the client, server, or both?
It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.
This release supports both sides, but the source does not require it on the server.
What else does Wilderlands Geology 1.0.2 need?
1.0.2. Change the file and its required mods may change too.
This file does not list any required mods. Do not add a library just because a different file uses it.
This file does not list any required or optional mods.
Before you install it

Stick to this file
Use 1.0.2. It targets 1.22.0-pre.1, 1.22.0-pre.2, 1.22.0-pre.3; another release may have different loader, side or dependency requirements.
- 02
Bring the mods it needs
This file does not list any required mods. Do not add a library just because a different file uses it.
- 03
Put it on the correct side
It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.

Use the “Get this file” button beside 1.0.2. It opens that exact file at the source.
About this project
What does Wilderlands Geology add?
Wilderlands Geology
NOTICE: Early phase. Everything looks stable and error-free in the logs, but use with caution.
Wilderlands Geology is a comprehensive overhaul of Vintage Story's geology and mineral generation systems, designed to create a world where rocks, provinces, and mineral deposits exist as parts of larger geological systems rather than isolated generation features.
Ores are no longer treated as something that must appear everywhere, but are assigned to specific rock types (and removed from others). This means in part that some ores and minerals are no longer found in rock types where you might be used to looking for them, and some large regions might be devoid of essential ores and/or minerals altogether, requiring the player to travel large distances looking for appropriate host rocks for the resource they are looking for.
Core Features:
Expanded Geological Provinces
- The vanilla geological province system has been dramatically expanded to create a more diverse geology.
- Existing provinces have also been reworked with new thickness values, frequencies, and geological characteristics.
The result is a world with greater regional diversity and a stronger sense of geological identity.
Rock Strata Overhaul
Rock strata generation has been extensively revised.
- Expanded igneous basement diversity
- New metamorphic formations
- Additional sedimtary units
- Previously unused rock types brought into world geneartion (marble, travertine)
- More varied layer transitions and geological sequences
Rock Deposits
- New rock deposits can generate within appropriate host rocks, creating distinct geological environments that can be recognized and explored. These formations/deposits often act as hosts for associated minerals and ore systems.
Ore/Mineral Generation Rework
- Many ore/mineral deposits have been redesigned.
[Documentation on changes will be posted to this section soon]
Future Goals
- Possibly add new rock types. For the moment, instead of adding new rock types, a decision was made to focus on compatibility with other mods that add new rock types. If at some point those other mods are no longer available, I may entertain adding new rock type resources directly to W.Geology.
- Explore how to build more diverse geological features/structures
- Documentation of all changes to ore and mineral deposits
- Ensure full compatibility with other major geology mods that add new rock types/strata features. Note: Initial compatibility with Geo Addons and Material Needs Geology is done. Still to do- Overhaul how those mods handle deposits.
Compatibility
- W.Geology does not contain ANY new blocks. On it's own, it only modifies vanilla rock type and deposit content, and does not add any new resources. As such, it is safe to add or remove from an existing world, although you will see changes in rock layer generation in chunks generated after this mod is added or removed. It is strongly recommended for new worlds.
- 1.0.1 Update to W.Geology includes compatibility that will allow Geo Addons and Material Needs Geology rock types to generate in-line with W.Geology parameters, once those mods update to incorporate the changes made in W.Geology.
- Works with RockStrataVariety, but images shown on this page were taken without it. RockStrataVariety seemed (in light testing) to actually reduce the number of strata layers I observed, but I did not test extensively. At the very least- no errors.
- 1.0.1 is not compatibile with RockStrataVariety. W.Geology now ships with it's own strata layer customization code (which I intend to expose to some degree in a config file in the near future).
- Mods that modify the same world generation files may require compatibility patches.
