About this project
What does Fruit Buff add?
What do?
This mod adds some major quality-of-life changes to fruit trees and berry bushes, designed for use in singleplayer worlds!
This is also my first attempt at a C# patch so please bear with me! It probably looks a bit messy under the hood, but has been thoroughly tested in vanilla without errors. 🙏
What want (suggested mods)?
- Ale Traders - what Fruit Buff was made for!
A Quick Care Guide
Fruit Buff does not add any additional harvests per year, so to make the most of it, the intended farming method is:
- Plant lots of tree cuttings!
If you're aiming for a big Year 1 harvest, it's a numbers game because the trees will be small, but grow quickly - For temperate bases, it's better to chop an tropical tree when harvesting!
Or whenever, just as long as it's before the temperature will drop below -2C - a dead tree gives no cuttings, so do this to multiply your trees for next year's harvest
What in (Features)?
Fruit Trees
- C# patch: the 30 day minimum wait for young>adult trees is cut down to 5!
- All fruit trees grow at just over 2x speed (~2.5 day growth calculation instead of 5)
- Vernalization removed (all fruit trees are considered Evergreen)
- DieBelow temperature for tropical trees is now -2C
- Planting success chance is 80%
- Grafting success chance is 60%
Berry Bushes
- Overall growth time between 3x~4x speed, for both cuttings and bushes
| Fruit Tree | Flowering Season | Fruiting Days |
| 🌲Pink apple | July - August | 7-13 |
| 🌲Red apple | June - July | 6-12 |
| 🌲Yellow apple | April - May | 8-14 |
| 🌲Cherry | April - May | 5-6 |
| 🌲Peach | March - April | 7-9 |
| 🌲Pear | July - August | 12-18 |
| 🌴Orange | June - July | 11-19 |
| 🌴Mango | February - March | 8-16 |
| 🌴Olive | March - April | 8-14 |
| 🌴Breadfruit | March - April | 11-19 |
| 🌴Lychee | March - April | 8-16 |
| 🌴Pomegranate | March - April | 8-16 |
We want (compatibilities)!
- Steep and Brew - coffee bushes
Huhwha (mod conflicts, known issues)?
looseLeavesBelowTemp doesn't seem to work on non-tropical trees.. but everything else works! 🤷
How do (Modify)?
To alter NonFloweringYoungDays (the days from planting a cutting before a tree is in its fruit-giving adult state), when you launch a world with Fruit Buff active, it'll create a config file inside your VintageStoryData\ModConfig folder called fruitbuff.json. Want fruit trees to be able to give fruit the second you plant them? Put it at 0 and Save!
Otherwise, if you want to tweak any individual values (like flowering season or growth speed), that's fruit-trees.json and berry-bushes.json files inside the mod itself: fruitbuff\patches.
Why do?
Because once I finished making Ale Traders I came to the re-realization that fruit trees are virtually untouched in singleplayer. They take so long to grow that most people don't even know they exist, let alone anything about the vernalization mechanic.
This wound up being a more a personal-taste mod, and may feel a little cheaty, but I've attempted to balance it in respect to the "usual" singleplayer world experience (that doesn't typically last more than about 2-3 in-game years). You'll be able to get fruit reliably before the first winter, not just from your cuttings, but from world-generated trees too!
